I've been having some solid weird nightmares the last couple of nights, and I can't figure the significance to them.

Anyone willing to lend an assist?

@Guitar's Cry I think I remember you mentioning doing dream divination before.

I do enjoy dream interpretation. Lay it on me!

Ok, so both of these nightmares revolved around something/one trying to kill me.

The first dream was of me and my wife (for no apparent reason) keeping a mama bear and cub, in our house caged. They get free, and the mama bear starts attacking me, at which point I spent most of the dream wrestling this bear as it tried to kill me. I grabbed a knife in an attempt to use it as a weapon, but it was less then functional. A folding knife that wouldn't stay open as it's lock was broken. This made me cut myself in the knife.

I eventually managed to kill the bear with brute strength, and woke up shortly after the neighbors came to investigate what all the fuss was about.

The second dream. I was on. A college campus, I'm a assuming my current one. And I ran into what appeared to be a crazy and sadist security guard. He partially attacked me due to me overhearing him talking about hurting people to himself. I get away and go to class, where he shows up to threaten me. He begins to verbally assault me, and I physically attack him. We then fight on 3-4 seperate occasions, where each time it seemed like he was dead/incapacitated, but he'd show up the next day, and continue attacking me as before, although now he had some handicap, arm braces, scars, etc. I eventually succeed beating the **** out of him, with help from some classmates, and even my professor. The dream ends with me being investigated for his murder (as we through him off a three story balcony).

These aren't normal dreams of mine. I usually have goofy interactive dreams. But these are out there even for me.

My first impressions:

The bear represents your raw, emotional side, and could also represent some specific emotion or trauma you've been through. According to Jung, characters in dreams often represent parts of our psyche and it would make sense that the bear is representing something in your Id (the primal, emotion and instinctual center. The security guard (crazy and sadistic) also plays this role, and both are "protectors": a mama bear a a security guard. So this may be an emotion you are holding back related to protecting either someone you love (your wife?) or even yourself or another part of your psyche.

That both are caged, literally and figuratively (the security guard is caged by his job and social rules) suggest you have coping mechanisms in place to hold them back. That these cages are artificial suggest they are aspects of your superego, which is the part of your psyche that is socially and intellectually created. Since part of your dream takes place at a University, that makes sense. Buildings in dream often represent what "part" of our psyches we are in.

So, my initial thought is you are feeling overwhelmed by an emotion or trauma that is struggling to break free, and this emotion is related to either your role as a protector if either yourself or someone else. It may also be due to your role as a student, since stress from another arena can weaken our coping mechanisms in another.

My suggestion would be to make an offering to "Bear" as a way of showing gratitude for the symbol. Then follow up with another form of divination, like tarot or runes to gain further insight. Also, if you see a therapist it might not be a bad idea to get in touch and bring it up. Meditating on this, getting in touch with the emotion, and healthily expressing it would be good too!

Also, keep a dream journal, since your subconscious is reaching out to you. Feel free to run things by me. I do enjoy interpreting symbols! :)

A couple of more thoughts:

This might be something you've dealt with before, which is why i feel like it could be related to some trauma: the security guard coming back after killing him, dealing with the consequences after, and the folding knife (you can tuck it away and hide it) being broken and cutting you suggests this. Also, your neighbors being disturbed suggests it's something you need to hide. Strong emotions aren't well accepted by society even when they are natural and normal.
