Wow when I saw a trailer for it my jaw dropped. I have a feeling it's going to be terrible, and that is sad because The Giver is one of my favorite books.

I'll watch anything if Jeff Bridges is in it. Quick question though, since you read the book, is it a young adult novel?

What do you mean by young adult novel? I enjoy it as a young adult if that's what you're asking

I mean like, the Hunger Games, Divergent, Twilight, Harry Potter, etc.

It is a YA novel, I Googled it. Not that that's a bad thing, it's just not a great thing, in my opinion. I won't expect it to be the next Blade Runner, let's put it that way. If it is, great, but I won't get my hopes up.

I don't think it needs to be. I know many adults who enjoy The Giver. For example, while I did read The Giver in school for a class, I read it once beforehand because my aunt showed me it.

It's a very interesting book. Maybe it was written for young adults, but I do personally feel its interesting aspect can be shared with any ages.

I'll probably see it because I loved the book, but I can already tell they'll have to do a lot of work to get to accept the very "Hunger Games -esque" feel they're going for.

I'm also slightly peeved by the fact that they made Jonas like 17 instead of 12 like in the book. (Gotta make sure to reel in those desperately lonely teenage girls.)

I'm not suggesting that only young adults can enjoy it, I'm sure anyone can enjoy it. It's just that YA novel tend to lack depth or layers to their plots or character development, and for good reason because they are targeted towards middle/high school age groups, and that's fine. I'm sure it was an enjoyable book and I'm sure it will be a decent movie, I just won't hold it to the standards of other similar stories such as Fahrenheit 451 or 1984.

They do vary a lot, though. Hunger Games is far better and more mature than Harry Potter, which by its turn is better than Twilight.

Oh, absolutely. I did enjoy Hunger Games, but I thought the movie focused too much on the love triangle. Didn't read Harry Potter, but I saw a some of the movies and I don't really get the hype, and don't even get me started on Twilight. I don't understand the appeal of Twilight at all, it's just so, so, so bad.

I saw the trailer. Whatever the actual plot may be it appears to be a little too blatant with its message. Stomach-churning almost.

I think Hunger Games is extremely overrated and stupid in some aspects. Harry Potter is better by orders of magnitude. Divergent is better than the Hunger Games, too.

The trailer came off to me as saying it will be a love story like all of the other YA films... I bet Lois Lowry is p****d

Well to some extent she had to give her permission. She sold the movie rights so unless she made them include her in the screenwriting process all she can do is relax and enjoy the extra cash.

She isn't the first author to have a screenwriter screw with her story. Probably won't be the last.
