Are Man's Actions Completely Controlled by the Physical Laws of the Universe?

Why does man do what he does? Are his actions completely controlled by the physical laws of the universe? If not, what other sources effect his behavior?

I don't think so. I do think that the laws of nature dictate the parameters and limitations of our actions. I don't think predeterminism and free will are wholly incompatible, albeit a specific definition of "free will". I would say that we're predetermined, but unpredictable.

It seems untestable.

Agreed. Exactly, how do we propose to test this proposition? I don't have any spare universes lying around and I can't step outside the universe and still have information related to the universe available for me to examine (to be fair: the first step of getting outside the universe seems like it might be pretty difficult).

People do what they do because of a good percentage of our genes have a strong influence on our behavior. Simple things like sexual orientation are genetic, but more complex things like intelligence must have a biological basis to flourish. A very large percentage, and probably well over 50%, is dictated by our very culture. Language is the most basic function of society, and it reflects things of importance to a culture. Culture even gives births to some mental illnesses, decides what our biological sexual urges are attracted to (or at least supposed to be attracted to), and can make the "testosterone fueled aggression" in men nuetralized and make men very passive and non-aggressive. Culture can also make the "caring, tender, and nurturing woman" into a fierce warrior. And enough of a percentage to allow enough free thought to not only figure things like this out, but behave and act like no other animal on this planet. Sometimes were better off, but usually worse off.

If we found a way around the natural laws of the universe, then whatever constitutes our loophole would become the new understanding of the natural laws of the universe.

See where I am going with this?

I would agree that it is untestable but all logic points to No.

What I think most people miss is that Life and Intelligence could be forces that existed in the begining as well as today. Like energy and gravity always there but in a potiential state of being.

by "actions" do you mean physical movements? If so yes, humans as all physical beings are constrained by the physical laws of the univerals
