Are Vegans better for the environment than meat eaters?

I watched an interesting video over the weekend. It costs $14.00 to purchase on its website and watch but if anyone would like to watch it for free just send me your email and I will email a link to you. The documentary is called Cowspiracy. Email if you are interested to [email protected]

My first thought is:
How do you measure and gather the pertinent info?

My second thought:
how do you discern what info is and what info is not pertinent?

It seems to me veganism is many times easier on the environment.

And veganism would also eliminate so much suffering felt by unimaginable numbers of animals raised for profit.

I watched a borrowed copy last month. Densely packed with facts, figures and numbers, but a narrative and interview breaks keep it interesting.
Some very salient facts, I think, buts leaves people with an uncomfortable choice between radical lifestyle change or hypocrisy. Denial vs radical lifestyle changes.

Tried the link -- not working. I get this:

I'm thinking malware...

I'm vegan about 98% of the time and agree it's good for the environment, but...

The main culprit is massive factory farming. With complete lack of hunting and/or enough predatory animals, which we kill off for our large urban areas, wouldn't have much fixed.

It's not occasional meat eating that is the problem. It's the huge system set up to give everybody meat twice a day or more.

You do realise that they found out that plants actually know that you are eating them.... right?
And they hate it.

Science!
...and all the field mice, snakes, rabbits, birds and untold insects all painfully chopped alive into little pieces by the farmers plow just for the insatiable desire for veggies.

So then you must know the plants know when the animals raised for food are eating them too, right?-We are talking about causing much less damage, not stopping it. We have to live.

It takes about 8 pounds of produce to make 1 pound of meat. I am a plant lover!
Facts!

Sure, but you need to eat far more vegies than you do meat. A pound of meat has far, far mpre protein than a pound of beans.

Most of the vegetarians, and vegans, that I know - are always sick, thin and sickly looking, and they seem to have brain function problems.

The brain needs B12 and Omega-3 Fats. The best sources are meat, eggs, fish, etc.

Here are a couple of articles.

And let's not forget the most important factoid of all: Hitler was a vegetarian!

There is no doubt that our current system of meat production is a travesty. I would not, will not eat meat from such sources, both on moral grounds and on health grounds. But will I eat meat from our local beef producers? Incredible grass fed gorgeous beef? Will I eat kalua pork made from wild pig that is fed almost exclusively on macademea nuts? You bet your sweet-*** I will, with relish, and perhaps a bit of cabbage and a bottle of Pipeline Porter.

I have to add thpugh that I have grave concerns about the modern meat industry, no animal shpuld suffer needlessly.

Eating rabbits and pigs from my fields is good for the environment I think - they are both very destructive feral animals here in Aus. But as far as the commercial meat industry is concerned, and the modern diet overall huge improvments need to be made towards sustainability.

Vegans exist because they are disgusted by a massive meat production, which is due to human overpopulation.
yes, massive husbandry where animals are considered things without dignity, is an aberration.
The demand of meat is high because we are too many. and above all, too many people consume too much meat. and they shouldn't.

so...there's nothing wrong with eating meat. As long as meat is produced through the traditional farming procedures, where the dignity of animals is respected. I think that by this changing, people will be able to eat meat once a week.

Let's increase agriculture instead: do choose the Mediterranean diet. Pasta, tomatoes, olive oil and so on
