You must have a really weird theory of political governance. As I peruse history, it does seem to me that how a people are governed (or how they govern themselves) has an absolutely immense effect on happiness and achievement both (and on misery and loss).

On a local level sure, but hopefully not on a federal level in the US. If it is then it is something we ought to look at fixing. It'd kind of mean our constitution isn't working as it should.

Yes, the more I'm governed, the sadder I am.

Staff deleted it for some reason; I don't know. I think it had to relate to my OP. I think it was finding those who agree with trump by vote. Most people don't like trump, so maybe it was a bit off. I just came back and saw it gone.

Wait. I found it. I think yours was deleted?

A lot of people follow the majority opinion; but, not everyone does. Some people are a bit more skeptical and others take a bit to think about what's happening before they decide.

But I don't know what it was in reference to since the post is gone.
Never mind, confusion reigneth. I deleted my post when you said you'd edited yours but then... oh forget it!
But I get your drift.

I would rather vote for Dick Cheney than Trump. And, in the day, I saw Cheney as equivalent to Darth Vader.

But at least Cheney can read and understand what is going on around him. I'm convinced Trump is simply a blithering idiot with an attention span measured in microseconds.

Ha. I knew it was one or the other. But at least you get my drift. That's really all I ask from conversations-do you understand me not whether I'm right or wrong. Who cares, really.

Even if they supported policies I agree with, I would never vote for someone of such deplorable character for head of state. We aren't electing for a soap opera, for gods sakes.

But you've voted for the party that has opposed gay marriage, reproductive rights, cannabis legalization, the 1st amendment (the establishment clause, flag burning, video games, etc.) and supported compulsory pledges and prayers in school, etc.? Sounds like they itch for control over others.

I know, it's wonderful to see isn't it, how those who think "small government is best" also believe that the same government should be very busy banning everything they don't like.

I've never voted for a party before. That's what tribal, stereotypical people do -- they categorize people, and put people in boxes because their mind is incapable of handling more complex perspectives.

Oh, kind of like you with atheists?

No. I only started those threads before to explore the reactions I would get. Basically I was studying people. The reactions I witnessed became far more biased and personal than I could have ever imagined...

Put this as a poll since there is so much anti-trump vibes here I don't know if anyone would answer it. It is a yes or no question meaning if you can find positive things to say or choose to expand your vote here (or want to "other it" as many do), but for now it's yes or not. Nothing is a fixed answer so we won't shoot you down if you said yesish.

Maybe with some things, maybe not with others. I want more social freedom than many on the right want to give, I am pro-birth control and abortion, pro stem cell research, pro marriage rights for homosexuals, and not really of the traditional religion here, among other issues that skip my mind. Obviously, these things will conflict the with the base of the Right. However, there are lefties now who say that this is hardly left wing enough, and perhaps that is one reason to support Trump, is because it would moderate those people. I also view the the political aims of a country as with that of any method of transportation, that must traverse a hard path. Sometimes you need to go right, and sometimes left. It is hardly easy to travel to that city on the horizon that we call the 'future,' sometimes we get stuck in the mud, sometimes there are brambles on the trail

And yet, I suspect you would find yourself even sadder if you (and everyone else) were not governed at all. No, not sadder -- eaten alive.

I don't like using the term "governed" in that context... I don't see value in governing people at all, I only see value in governing laws and policies.

...Nobody should ever consider themselves governed by the state.

It's a good point...

It's why two trees of the same species, won't look exactly the same, even if they exist side by side, and catch the same breezes, sunlight and amount of water... They change because of the most slightest of molecular differences in their surrounding environmemt. And so it's the same with people, even if they claim to be of the same political affiliation.
