OMG Preach lady!
I recall my younger step brother at the age of 13 approached me to talk about him having sex with his girlfriend. After my initial shock I explained to him all that I could regarding his questions and emphasized the importance of mutual consent and protection.

Did I think he was too young? Yes. Would me telling him no or sweeping it under the rug be helpful? No.
Kids are curious, kids will experiment, kids will be sexually active. It's basic biology. You can emphasize chastity all you like and that's fine. But let's be pragmatic about this.

It's actually quite strange how little most people my age know about sex. Most even think that masturbation is weird, and that any sex being male dominate PIV sex is a violation of some unwritten rule.

I escaped having the "talk" with my parents by honestly saying "I know". It's strange how I am well versed regarding sex despite having no conversation with my parents regarding it.

The best way you can teach your kids about sex is to be completely honest. My parents taught me about it, in simple, scientific explanations, as soon as I was old enough to ask. I turned out fine.

Well, I guess I'm maybe a bit sexually obsessed and frustrated, but eh, I still turned out relatively fine.

That's nice that you are, but I still urge you to take a look at the other videos in the series. They're excellent: quite frank and very informative.

Iv'e encountered many of my peers like this before, but most of my peers that I know that may react Puritanically are those of younger age. Iv'e always regarded parts of Modern Western Society to be Puritanical in a sense. Many of these kids in which you probably may have encountered have been perhaps isolated from the subject of Sex or instead perhaps raised in a more fundamental Conventional setting of Religion.

We go to a church where they scare kids into thinking they will go hell if they have sex before marriage, so I'm confident we don't have to worry about this. Also, I pray to god for good measure. We've got the problem well-handled.

Is that what your religion believes, or is it just a ploy to scare the kids? In either case it's a bit disturbing.

Are you a politician by chance?

Let me answer that by saying that I believe in an America that we can all be proud of. An America which provides opportunities and safety to all its citizens. An America tired of the same-old, same-old we get from the do-nothing establishment in Washington. I like to think America's best days are ahead of us, not behind us.

Yup. You are. And a Republican to boot. ;)

If Republican means that I smoothly and confidently express to Americans that I'm fighting for them, while at the same time, only doing things that go against their best interests, then yes, I proudly call myself a Republican.

I hope so, since I'm a granddad twice over!

If they are not, I better start a religion and write a book all about my grandchildren

When our kids asked the right questions, they got the right answers, and we made it clear when they became teens that birth control is wise to have around and that we would get it for them if necessary.

BTW, our oldest daughter learned about the birds and the bees when she was four, our youngest daughter was seven, and our son was eight. I had to inform our oldest and my wife the next two as we had agreed in advance that which of us was asked the right questions would have to answer them.

Great idea: "we had agreed in advance that which of us was asked the right questions would have to answer them."

****ing autocorrect ruined my last post here. I think it's fairly cause and effect; if you **** without a condom, you will get pregnant. If you use the pill, you will harm your own health, possibly sterilizing yourself and contribute to pollution.

I will honestly say that I think VDs are an exaggerated concern. They do happen a lot, but provided that the parties involved in the relation have not had sex with anyone else recently, there is virtually no concern. Unfortunately, that is difficult to prove. It depends on who you are doing it with. It's a concern with some cheerleader or whatever, but not with your girlfriend of multiple years. That said, the risk of getting pregnant should thwart one to always use a condom. For some reason, people can't understand that.

A big part of the problem is abstinence only sex education. Some schools, predominantly those in backwards states, obligate students to abstain from sex until marriage. Last time I checked, legal documents weren't the device factor regarding a pregnancy.
