I has been awhile since I have done an AMA (ask me anything), so here I am!

A few notes for some who might not know me as well as others:
  1. I have taken a lot of time to research current rocket and space technologies.
  2. I designed and maintain NextLaunch (link in signature) to help keep users informed of upcoming rocket launches.
  3. I am a social progressive.
  4. I support clean energy initiatives.
  5. I am not dating Usher.
So, fire away!

Have you read any sci-fi series?
No series. But I did read the Martian (becoming less and less sci-fi as we move forward) and Ender's Game. Both are fantastic reads and I would recommend them to anyone.

Also how is Usher lately?
Stopped returning my calls. Lawyer mentioned something about a restraining order, 300 feet, yadda yadda yadda.

If Trump declared war on Obamaland (aka Hawaii) would you support it or would you be a socialist coward?

I would volunteer to be a ground troop for sure. I would make sure all the coast lands were secure.

This place looks like it would be a good spot for an invasion.

When do you expect us to colonize a new planet and what planet or moon will be first.
Currently, I do not see an argument for colonizing the Moon. Using it as a way station or a "next step" after the decommission of the ISS is a very real possibility. With that said, I think it is within the realm of possibility of having a sustainable settlement on Mars by 2050.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood while travelling at 90% of the speed of light in relation to the quantity of wood chucking by the same woodchuck traveling at normal speed within the same time frame relative to us?

That depends, what is in it for me? Spot me one of the cabanas and some full service staff, I might be in!

Mars is super cold. What about a colony in the shadow of a crater on Mercury? Think we could have one by 2030?

What about the moons around Mars?

How long before we can manufacture spacecraft in space?

Not on that timetable. Many agree that is would be possible to go to Mercury in the way you are suggesting as well as settle on the poles. However, from I have seen, the technology isn't quite there yet and Mars is simply easier. The shelters required to sustain on Mercury would be much heavier and more difficult to transport. Either that or we would have to transport mining operations to dig tunnels that way. Possible? Yep. Just not on the radar yet.

What about the moons around Mars?
We could, but ultimately for what purpose?

How long before we can manufacture spacecraft in space?
Is this something we really want to do? In order to do this we would have to not only transport the materials but also the fabrication devices into space. Finally, we would have to either transport the fuel needed to the assembly/staging area or somehow harvest the materials needed from a nearby atmosphere or space object. I think for the foreseeable future we will need to be based on some sort of planetary body to manufacture a spacecraft.
