Aspirin and Home remedies.

Do you believe in using asprin, painkillers, etc, or do you use "home remedies"?
Do you have your own remedy for an ailment? What kind of solution do you use for such?

We use natural remedies where possible. The remedy is dependent on the problem. For headaches, many times I can just use the pressure point in my hand and the pain disappears almost instantly...as long as I keep pressing the pressure point. Here's a link for more info. My 12 year old does energy work on me and I've done it on my husband with success as well.

For burns, we use lavender essential oil. For an antibacterial or antifungal need, we use tea tree oil. My boys asked for a bottle of tea tree when they went off to college because they use it when they get athletes foot. We also use tea tree on mosquito bites because it gets rid of the welt. I also switched from my prescription anti-depressant to rose oil after reading some research done in Bulgaria....and it works.

We tend to use a lot of essential oils for our home remedies because I import them, and I find them just as effective as OTC or pharmaceutical preparations. Fortunately I have a doctor who is open minded and will work with me on this.

I don't know that it counts as a home remedy, but we also use my homemade goat's milk soap instead of store bought and it contains my essential oils too.

Thanks Melody :)

May I ask, what do you think is the best solution for a sore mouth? (Oh and the clove
oil does work, thanks LL)

I put mustard on ant bites and bee stings. It stops the pain, and draws out the poison. For a sore mouth, it depends on the source of the pain. If there is an absess under the gums, I will poke it with a needle and drain it, this will relieve the pressure on the nerve. I have heard of clove oil being used for dry socket and other pains, but have not used it myself.

I wish I had nothing but home remedies, but I also use orajel to numb the pain.

Yah, but it's nice when it stops!

I get very confused; one day, aspirin is 'in vogue' - one a day helps thin the blood, therefore lestening the chances of heart attacks. The next, we're told the reverse.

I've found this to be a common trend with doctors, and the British Medical Association.
One of the painkillers I take (a pretty potent one) - called co-proxamol- I heard on television, is to be withdrawn. When I asked my doctor for a bumper supply before that happens, and why was it banned ?, He looked at me and said "I haven't a clue!"

He did elaborate that tests are sometimes run by the British Medical Association on what are supposed to be representative cross sections of the population, and results do not agree with 'the doctor in the hot seat's experiences'.:help:

BTW, Melody's advice re abscesses is fine, but you ought to make sure you sterilize the needle first!- tou can hold the tip in the blue part of a gas flame, until it glows red (That would kill any nasties on it).

Also, out of interest, garlic is a natural anti-biotic; you may be healthier, but you won't have many friends!:biglaugh:

I wasn't the one who gave the advice on the abcess. :)

I'm not sure about mouth sores, but a drop or two of myrrh essential oil in water is a great gargle for sore throats and yes so is clove essential oil.

I've read that a drop of peppermint essential oil on your temples is good for headaches. My theory is that it's because the pain of the mint oil on your skin takes your mind off the headache!

oops, sorry, of course, it was Enhanced spirit - apologies, Melody.

Salt warm water is also good for mouth sores.:)

I just looked up a remedy in a book I have of "Home Remedies" and it said to rub a piece of ice on the V-shaped area between your thumb and forefinger for about five to seven minutes, until the area goes numb. This treatment significantly eases tooth pain by sending impulses along the same pathways that toothache pain travels. The impulses close the gate on incoming pain messages--in effect, shutting off the ache. (This was for a toothache)

From the book of "Home Remedies"..........Gargle with peroxide. A solution of three parts water and one part hydrogen peroxide changes the pH of your saliva and makes for a harsh environment for the bacteria causing canker sores. Mixing this solution and gargling or swishing it around your mouth several times a day is very helpful when you have a canker sore. But don't swallow it!

I hope this helps!

Of course, smokin doesn't aid the situation.

You know what used to work? Propping a fan heater up next to my face, and allowing my cheek
to get really hot. Don't ask.

It does help, but tastes really bad, I remember having to do this when I was little.

And poking the absessed gums does not hurt as much as you think it would. It's just a little prick, but release of pressure is instant. The tiny little prick of the needle is nothing to the excrutiating pain that an absessed tooth can cause.

I try not to use tylonol or that kind of stuff, cause i really hate to use drugs. I ussually use natural remedies to ease any kind of problem. i most often use the remedies: belladonna, arnica, sulphur, and hypericum.:D

I had one incident where a filling was poking out one end, scaping the cheek, and on the other end,
it poked the gum. It was terrible. Painkillers, mouthwash, nothing seemed to work.

And then my mom cooked steak. Great. I gave it a ty, and as SOON as I bit down on the steak,
I felt this rush through my mouth, and the pain was gone. :)

I wouldn't use peroxide. Peroxide kills the good germs as well as the bad and may set you up for even worse problems. Salt water would be better.

A tall glass of lemon juice cures anything, as well as being delicious. If that doesn't work, try vinegar. I always bring a small bottle of rice vinegar with me to school, just in case. The flavour sort of grows on you.

I little Rieki, or some tabbaco for pain. Iodine for cuts. Needle for infections. Good ol' whiskey for toothaches. Meditation is a good remedy.
