Aupmanyav is Vegan these days

For the last fortnight or more, I am on a vegan diet except for a little milk when I have tea. No eggs in the morning. Not even butter on the toast, and only two pieces in the morning. Lunch is two or two and a half rotis (those who do not know, thin Indian wheat tortillas, do not go by its puffed appearance, image below) with either lentils or vegetable preparation (not both). Afternoon, one toast without butter with tea. Evening meal, again two rotis (no more than that) with either lentils or vegetable preparation (one thing only). Surviving. Jai Sri Krishna.

The reason was a taunt by my wife that I think of food all the time, so I left it all. Basically, I would have liked to experiment with food if I knew a little of cooking. And that bothered my wife.

Oh! I've often thought of going vegetarian, but that would be hard for me... I enjoy seafood too much. XD What are you doing for protein, if you don't mind my asking?

Well done! I tried it for a couple of years but found it quite a challenge.

With the importance given to lentils and their availability, it is not too difficult around here.

Wheat flour and lentils provide enough proteins to majority of Indians (sometimes rice, corn flour in winters - 'makki ka atta', winter near its end here, we had a short winter this time, so perhaps time to finish any corn flour that remains in the pantry).

The food that we eat has a direct effect on mind/manas . If you become a vegan, it is benefit for you .....on the other hand seeing eggs or thinking about them even makes me vomit......I even discarded eating onions and garlic 3 years back and never looked back, starting it is tough but after you keep them away for sometime, you forget about them....easy

I see. Many people are happy to see me starving. :( :D
Kalyan, garlic is a 'no, no' in my family, mostly because of the smell, though my grandsons like garlic bread.

Thanks, I took the vow at the time of my marriage to eat whatever my wife prepares for me. Before adopting the vegan diet I was an atheist Hindu. After the vegan diet, I am still an atheist Hindu. :D

Yes it's a Hinduism thing. Those foods are not sattvic; pure for the mind and body.
Nothing. They make one hanker for taste. A dependency. Not for those who want to focus on some particular thing.

Seems like you are not eating enough, I immediately thought of Gandhi.

I mean, I know 2 and a half rotis can have a filling effect, but this is way too many entotal bread, like six pieces a day, though in the evening you said you then have lentils or vegies with the two rotis.

What about samosas? What I like about samosas is I can carry them around in my jacket pocket wrapped in paper or even wrapped in a handkerchief, and just eat it anywhere like if I were walking in a park, etc..

My wife is in Canada, and I am in hell as far as cooking. Who is cooking the dinner time lentils or vegies?

What about using some olive oil?

What are you drinking? Please don't "go Gandhi" on us and starve yourself. What about lassi? Salt lassi?

I love samosas, for that matter all fried food. But for the moment, I am off them all. No fried food. Olive oil in India is an elite fad. High cost for a second grade product (you can hardly get any best grade product in Indian markets, even the best mangoes, best rice is exported). Water or tea, the winters are not officially over although max. day temperature has reached 33 degrees C.

I don't think Aupmanyav will have a hard time with filling his stomach. He's not a college student...that demographic of vegans eat the worst.
Also, it may be interesting to know that the majority of vegans are atheists and female.

Jai Jai , ....

Yes, the change has made me realize that I was eating too much of chillies and too much of food, more than what my body required at the retired age of 73 - and I have never felt acidity since the day I went vegan, otherwise I was popping the pills all the time.

so you are surviving very nicely :)

so nice your wife cooks for you all the time , she is just being a perfect wife , ...but men make very good cooks too , ....if you tell her you want to cook for Krsna , she will definatly let you in the Kitchen , ...but then you have to cook what Krsna likes , and he does not like Onion and Garlic or mushrooms , .....and not too much Chili it will make his eyes water , ...
