Yesterday the Australian government launched a royal commission into the child abuse perpetuated by the catholic church.

Good on them. I've heard some horror stories about treatment of children in catholic run orphanages back in the 70s. I don't know what will come of this or what punishment will be meted out to the church, but anything that shines light on the institutionalised abuse of children and the systematic cover up of these crimes is a good thing.
