I was in the music store (god knows it's been a while ahh...mp3s) and I had no idea what
music was what or what was popular. Anyways, I looked in the newest releases and there
was one from Jessica Simpson. I picked it up and the sales dude said to me
"excuse me, are you trying to feel young again?" I'm like "what?" and his reply was

"Only 12 yr olds listen to Jessica Simpson. Trying to look young again?"

I walked out of the store, and thought to myself, "well, I think I will stick to downloading."

What kind of attitude is that for a person in a store to have?

Ugh! Maybe this person thought he could make himself feel cool by putting down others. I really don't like it when people do that.

And just how old was this 'Dude' who felt the need to comment on your age?
Be grateful your a man Renaldo because when you're a woman and they lable you as "Ma'am" that's when you know your age is showing. I was in the beer store one day and the guy asked me "Do you need help out with that Ma'am?" I just glared at him and said "The day I need help out with my own case of beer is the day I quit drinking, 'Son'!" I'm sure I made my point quite clear! :biglaugh:

Although I do feel he had a bad attitude & shoudln't have said it, he saved you from even considerign buying such a bad artist. Don't download! It's so wrong! Buy! buy! Buy! You're ripping off musicians! How would you fell if someone stole your wages? When I'm older & become the rockstar I'm destined to be :)sarcastic) you'll be stealing from me aswel! I'm sure you can afford it!

Musicians like Metallica will be begging people like us to download their music ten years from now. Why should we be made to buy the whole CD from a band who was fortunate enough to be a 'One Hit Wonder'. I think it's ridiculous. If I like the whole album, I'll buy it. As far as I'm concerned if we download the music from the intenet and we like it, then we'll be more inclined to go out make the purchase. As for stealing their wages, don't forget the revenue that comes from the concerts they're performing all over the world and the $2.00 T-shirts they're selling at $40.00 a pop. This is just an example of some of the ways these musicians are making money from us.

the musicians make us pay $18.00 for an entire cd when we only want one or two songs on it. Its a waste of money to buy a cd, might as well download, or if you think you're stealing, buy it on itunes.

I'd have probably told him that I was shopping for my younger sister, but that since he was such an arrogant arse, I'd be taking my business elsewhere, thank you, never to set foot in this store again. What a tosser!

I agree with what you say about trying music by downloading it, I do that too. Firstly metallica were not a one hit wonder, although their new stuff is a bit iffy, they've made some great albums in the past, what's the point of having a couple of songs by loads of artists? Most bands make good albums, & having a couple of songs on their own just isn't as good, most albums flow together & make the songs even better because of that. Go out & buy albums, If you don't like the whole albums then oh well, but say you buy the albums, there could be even just a couple of hidden gems they didn't release, most artists will only release the songs that are popular, not necessarily their best, from buying albusm I've onyl heard a couple of songs from I've discovered so many amazing songs I never would have heard otherwise.

You don't have to buy their t-shirts or whatever, they don't make them, but stealing something they have created, made into a good piece of music, or even a bad one, it doesn't matter, stealing something they have used their minds to create is awful, & there's no excuse.

In a couple of years time people's music collection will be just a load of random songs on a computer, I am proud to own over two hundred decent albums, it's not jsut the songs, it's the album artwork, the songs, the order of the songs, & everything else that makes an album, an album.

But when you look at it this way, some musicians/artists rip us off, no? They release a couple of good songs, and then they do a couple of "quick rushed" songs just to sell the album for $30.
At least with downloading one particular song, you get the song you want and do not have to pay for a whole cd filled with rubbish. or filled with the same song on the cd 5 times, each labelled as "House mix" or "Back Boogy dance mix., or something similar. And most artists these days only remake old songs anyways, which have a bass thump beat thrown behind them.

Another reason I d/l is because I have found that music sotres (much like MSN Messenger 7) cater mostly for teenagers, and it's gettig rather difficult to find decent music in them.

As I said, like most artists these days. An it seems to apply to forums these days too:D

CR, I must apologize, I didn't mean to imply that 'Metallica' was one of those bands that makes up the 'One Hit Wonder' list. However when they threatened to sue those of us who were downloading their music from 'Napster' a few years back this only reinforced my opinion that some of these musicians can be nothing but greedy money suckers. How could any musician expect to remain respected by his/her listeners after such an outrageous statement. Afterall, isn't it the people who listen to their music that made them the great band they were. As for those hidden gems, those can be found by downloading, listening, then going out and purchasing the album. I have a vast collection of CD's that I have purchased at approximately $15.00 each. At any rate, I've spent somewhere near the $5000 mark and I feel that each album is worth every penny!(even my old Madonna album  ).
My point is this, because I haven't purchased 8-10 songs for the sake of one good song, and downloaded that one that I really like, I shouldn't be labled the thief, they should. Afterall they're the one's expecting me to spend my good earned money on something they must know sucks!

It's true most of these huge bands have become very comercial, for example, Axl Rose, Guns 'n' roses are my favourite ever band, I love them to pieces but I can't help but sigh everytime I read he's sueing another person. Most of it isn't necessary, but I can see their point, it's still theft, though I'm sure they can do to lose a bit of mass from their wallet. But you have to think of the underground bands, the ones who have increasingly smaller chances of becoming big because no one is buying their music.

But most 'hidden gems' are very rare & harder to find on music downloading programs.

Why should they be labelled the thief? They have robbed no one, you are not forced to buy their album, you have a choice, but when you download music they have no choice.

But therein lies the problem, most bands who release bad songs/albums don't know it's bad, firstly most bands that release albums are good enough, I agree there is a fair share of ****e out there, but taste is an opinion, one there's no accounting for. Your masterpiece is someone else's beer mat. Secondly, again you have a choice, you're not forced to buy it, but if you download music you're missing some of the amazing bands that aren't well known enough to haev any music you can easily find when downloading, I've found so many decent bands by going into a record shop & buying a cd I like the look of, I've found alot of crap to, but where's the fun in buying an album you have basically heard before. You need the thrill of listening to a cd made by a band you've never heard before.

Try going into a music store and asking for an artist that isn't U2 or Metallica and hasn't released their first album yesterday. The 15 year olds behind the counter look at you like you're mental. Because you're asking for music they've never heard of, they seem to be labouring under the misaprehension that you're asking for something that doesn't exist. It's quite annoying, to say the least, not to mention that they treat you like you're beneath them because you're obviously not up with what's 'happening'.
I'd love to know what's happened to customer service with a smile.
Honestly, Renaldo, you should have just looked at that guy and said;'I figured that as you're my hero I'd try to find something that would obviously appeal to your good self.'

Exactly. These days you have to "follow the trends" or else you are considered idiotic.
Frubals to the Lady.

And because of all today's artists re-doing old songs, it's impossible to ask for the original..

Here's an example of when I asked for a Rod Stewart song:

"Here you go," hands me an N-Trance cd single.
"No, I want the original."
"That's the orignial sir."
"No, I mean the 1978 version."
"It only came out last year sir."
"No, it was originally released in 1978."
"What are you on about? I am telling you this song was only released last year.""
"Dumbass."

I leave.

You must spread some Karma around before giving it to lady_lazarus again.:jam:

That guy is lucky. I would have demanded a manager to complain. I put up with enough rudeness from customers at work. I don't want it from employees when I'm the customer.

I'd like to know who some of those groups are. I like all but a few songs out of all of them I have. I usually like all the songs on an album. There are some songs I just can't bring myself to listen to, such as the 6th song on Slipknots album Subliminal Versus. I don't get a CD because I like that one song, and I've heard it on the radio. I get a CD because I like that group and to enjoy the whole album. If I'm trying to decide which CD to buy, then I might decide on which one has more songs that I've heard, or like more, but not usually.
