On a lark last year, at the age of 51 I decided to try to finish my associates degree which I had neglected for 20 years. Now at 52 I'm about 2 weeks from finishing hopefully and I will be starting a new course of study

I had no idea what I was going to do for a bachelor's in all these decades

Since I'm kind of isolated, online was my only real choice.

And the time to get a new school for fall it was almost up and next thing I know I'm majoring in "religious and cultural studies".

I tell people I'm agnostic which isn't necessarily true but it keeps people from prying

I was Methodist as a kid, always going to church and helping with Sunday school and the little kids.

I had been through bahai, Unitarian universalist, vipassana meditation, episcopalian, quaker, a little Roman Catholic and next thing I know I'm getting anointed into the Eastern Orthodox Church with thoughts of becoming a monk and I'm deeply involved in it for 6 years. But life moves on and I got into Osho, then I was Mr science for 10 years, and now I've been kind of reconciling different things.

I've been on the internet since 1989 and so I'm basically an internet netizen. It helps me communicate better and I enjoy being able to communicate with people around the world. it's never got old to me.

My classes start August 19th and I decided I should get into an environment that's religious people talking because my mindset has not been religious stuff for a long time and I feel like I should get going in it.

I'm also a bit scared and this is my first time being in a proper Forum in many many years, being lazy with Facebook and Google+ and other massive generic things. Nice to find a real forum.

My name is Kenneth Udut and I'm residing in Naples Florida in a house in the middle of the Woods with extended family. I make it sound dramatic.

The first big thing I did online in 1990 was create a discussion group for the rights of kids and teenagers which lasted a few years. In 1994, I created a group for ministers and those interested Ministry because I wanted to see what different religious leaders had in common.

That's about it so far.

WOW! What a diverse history of your life! And now… college but “with” the experience behind it. Should be interesting for sure!

I took college course years after too… (I’m 70 now) - you can do it!! Probably better than what you expect. :)

Thank you! Yes, I found with the AA some things were much harder than I remembered but other things were easier. All in all a different experience and yet still had me nail biting a few times.

Great first name by the way and good to see a fellow 'took later classes" person!

Noted - I'm inescapably spread around online with my name so I don't get too too worried -- but I took it out of the original - and I'll certainly keep it in mind

Welcome to RF.

You sound like you've got some wonderful tales to spin.

I am also a late finisher of higher education being in my late thirties. Coincidentally, I'll be finishing my bachelors degree w/minor this fall term. My minor is Religious Studies and my major being Anthropology (Archaeology specialized) is essentially Cultural studies.

I look forward to your contributions.

I think that's just silly. When I first got online people would accuse me of hiding behind anonymity so I started posting my real name, street address and telephone number. No crazy bogey men came out of the woodwork.

Welcome to the forum. I'm fairly new here myself, and also a netizen from the days of old. You certainly have a colorful history; the name simplify seems ironic. If you have the time, I think you will enjoy participating in the forum. Have fun!

Simplify was a goal. I thought I needed to simplify the complex in myself. So if I made it my name, my aspiration might become the reality.
