I know some of what is said here is true of the faith, but is all of it pretty much on point?
If not, what has it got wrong?
.
My guess is that the Mormon Church has banned its members from watching it.Spiffy animation. I am curious what the Mormon posters here on RF think of this cartoon?
By the way, banned by whom?

It's only a request by the Mormon church that non-Mormons not call Mormons, "Mormons," or the Mormon Church the "Mormon Church." Mormon Church leader Russell Nelson has no power to disallow anyone outside its membership from calling Mormons, "Mormons," or the Mormon Church the "Mormon Church."You are no longer allowed to call them Mormons.
Latter Day Saints no longer want to be called Mormons
You're "allowed" to call us whatever you want. The Church's leadership has simply asked that people use the correct name of the Church in its first mention (for instance in this thread), and then from there on to use the words, "the Church." For anyone who actually wants to be informed on the subject, the name of the Church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." I realize that, for some people, that's a lot to ask.You are no longer allowed to call them Mormons.

You're such a killjoy. You're "allowed" to call us whatever you want. Yeah, I know. But I do have that "Mormon glow" which can be a great source of wonderment. You're such a killjoy.
Yeah, right. A few people might believe anything I said, but the vast majority would insist that most of what I said was lies. This thread would be much more fun if you said
it was banned for revealing deep dark secrets.
We know so little about other people's religions
that you could tell us anything, & we'd believe it.
We're putty in your hands.
Does the vast majority know that much?Yeah, right. A few people might believe anything I said, but the vast majority would insist that most of what I said was lies.
I'd say that the average adult in the United States, if actually given a test on LDS beliefs, would fail miserably. Most of what people "know" about Mormonism comes from websites and various publications that are completely lacking in credibility. The video in the OP is a perfect example of the kinds of things most people actually think we believe. Let me give you an analogy. Roman Catholics believe in the doctrine of transubstantiation, which teaches that the Eucharistic elements (i.e. the bread and wine) are actually transformed into the body and blood of Christ at their consecration, leaving only the appearance of bread and wine. Now if the producer of the video in the OP were to make a cartoon showing Catholic doctrines, the narrative would probably say, "Catholics are cannibals. Every time they go to mass, they sit down to a dinner of roasted Jesus and booze." He'd have a delightful little cartoon illustrating such a "meal." Oh, and he'd say, "This is straight out of Catholic writings."Does the vast majority know that much?
Hmmmm.....I suspect that there might be some misinformation about more than one religion.I'd say that the average adult in the United States, if actually given a test on LDS beliefs, would fail miserably. I don't doubt that for a minute.Hmmmm.....I suspect that there might be some misinformation about more than one religion.

Which parts of it are accurate then? I certainly have heard other Mormons claim to believe some of these things that were in that video. I'd like to see if what I've been told by them matches with what you say is accurate, just for comparison's sake.90%-95% of it is either flat out wrong or is kind of a caricature. Very little of it is accurate.
Like I said, so much of it was truth mixed with error that almost no complete sentence in the video was accurate. If there is a specific sentence in the video that you can quote verbatim, I'll do my best to explain what part of it is accurate and what part of it is intended to be misleading. Or if it would be easier for you, take a segment that is no longer than 30 seconds, give me the starting and ending times of that segment on the video and I'll just state how our actual belief differs from the way it was stated in the video.Which parts of it are accurate then?
