Banning Crosses

The Revealer reports

6 January 2005
10:28 AM: The Christian Coalition has accused the Secret Service of religious discrimination and bigotry for writing a memo that bans crosses from Bush's inauguration parade. The Coalition, which has received a demonstration permit to remind Bush to appoint pro-life justices, complained that the cross was the only religious symbol declared contraband. A spokesman for the Secret Service defended the ban, saying it concerned the "potentially harmful or threatening" structure and material of the crosses, and in no way was a ban on the Christian symbol. Only cloth, cardboard and posterboard signs will be allowed at the parade, and so a cardboard cross would be acceptable.

Hiya Bob....

(I deleted that off topic post....)

As for your thread it seems more like a security measure than an effort to discriminate.

I agree, Scott. But I also think the mere fact it is a security measure is unlikely to prevent the hysterical Religious Right from declaring it an effort to discriminate. Those people look for discrimination in all things, and they constantly think they've found it.

What the heck to you mean by that? Are you discriminating against me? :biglaugh:

I agree with you my friend..... if a cardboard cross is all I am allowed to bring, then so be it..... the plastic rosary in my pocket is more significant to me than a 50 foot crucifix made of solid gold.....

I editted my post to thank you and remove the quote.

My thoughts exactly. It seems some will see persecution where it does not exist.
