Bargains?

Jaymes

The cake is a lie
I'm a bargain-addict. I'll spend a good 15 minutes nosing through the bargain bins at stores, even if I doubt there's something in there I like. I got a $30 book for 50 cents that way, though :D And a $40 MP3 player with a $30 rebate. Yay for bargains!

What's the best thing you guys have bought at a lower price? Buy something you thought would be good and have it turn out awful? Any interesting stories?

I bought a huge box of books for a buck at a fleamarket, then turned around a sold it for twenty at a half-price bookstore.

I just recently bought some DVDs that turned out to be just tv rips. I tried to get my money back and he just said, "I never said they weren't tv rips." So I threated to get him closed down and he gave me my money back. Then I got him closed down. Hey, I never said I wouldn't. ;)

I just won a N64 Gameshark on Ebay, still sealed in the factory box, for a whole 6 cents. However, I flipped when I was given the shipping fee of $8.95. The distortion pedal I got off Ebay was only 5 dollars, it's heavier. Last time I buy without the shipping fee being listed.

I do like to dig through discount bins and shelves. Usually most of the stuff I'm not interested in, but once in awhile, I'll find something I like for super cheap. I also like liquidation stores. I have got Mick Foley's Have a Nice Day book, hardcover, for 25 cents; Metallica's Cliff 'Em All $19.99 Home Video for 5 dollars. Could've goten Castlevania Legends for PS1, a game that usually sells for more than $50 on ebay, for $1.99. Too bad someone stole the cd. I got a leather jacket with a dragon on it as a gift for my brother for only 8 dollars. I should start my own ebay bargain store.

I never get bargains; I shop so seldom.

I am, however, a 'recycler' ; I am the sort of guy who comes home all excited because I have found two rubber bands and a nut & bolt on the pavement while walking the dog.........

I have a very large collection of nuts & bolts. :biglaugh:

I got a t-shirt at target the other day for like $5 when it was supposed to be $18 because it had a dirty spot on the inside...washed right out!

i got a vintage lord of the rings set from ballantine, two brand new novels, one slightly used novel, and an old paperback for 10 bucks. it was from a festival called the octoberfest that they have every year.

The worst thing that happened to me was when i bought a brand new t.v. off of ebay, but i waited 2 months and never got it. tried to contact the seller, but his account closed down so i couldn't contact him. i later found the invoice, and berated the guy at his home and at his work until he payed me my $100 back. it pissed me off.

I will now go out of my way to spend more money on the same item if I don't like the store with the discount. Many things I see in the walmart flier are very cheap, but I end up going to target and spending my $ there just because I don't like walmart and approve of target more. It's all about service.

Target also has better quality stuff.

I bought a set of 3 swords with the stand for 15 bucks at a flea market. Nothing wrong with them, sharpened chinese steel, beautiful swords. What a Buy!! Anywhere else it would have cost me over 100 bucks for swords that quality.

I am the bargain queen. :p I don't pay retail if I can get away with it, and if I plan to buy something expensive, I will shop around until I find the best deal, even if it takes weeks, rather than just go buy it because I 'want it now!'. I got into reading David Eddings because of a book I got for $2 in a bargain bin...that was a pretty good investment. It's funny to see this thread today - I was dreaming about buying a book last night, and it had a torn slipcover on it, so I got it for much cheaper than the price tag. Strange thing is, I never buy hardcovers...hmm...

Hehee, the only thing I ever buy in hardcovers are Terry Pratchett books. (I'm too anxious to wait until paperback, I fear!)

Bastet do you go to op shops
Yeah, but I don't often have the time. I got probably half of my Tupperware from op shops - a lot of containers without lids, which I got for 10c each, then went and bought the lids from a Tupperware dealer for a couple of bucks. Or I bought a cracked container and then got a free brand new replacement through a Tupperware dealer because of their 'lifetime guarantee'. :D Although they've changed the rules on the whole lifetime guarantee thing now I think. I've gotten a lot of books from op shops, usually for 10c or 20c each. I don't tend to buy clothes from there (there are exceptions), but I have donated heaps of my own over the years. They can have bargains and they can have crap - you just have to take the time to look, and know what you're looking at/for. ;)

A good way to get a bargain in Target is to go in with a big jumper;)
Nah, not into the "five fingered discount", me. :tsk:

My first cell phone was $130 with $150 in rebates!!!
My cell phone was free. A friend of mine upgraded and gave me her old phone. I'll use it until it dies; I don't see the need for one that sends email, or takes photos, or any of that other stuff. I barely use it anymore as it is.
