Barr attacks Trump's interference

I'm surprised but pleased to see this. It seems that Barr has a backbone which probably means he'll be out of a job sooner or later. And just in case any were wondering, this does not mean that I agree with him in the slightest but I respect his speaking out.

Barr blasts Trump's tweets on Stone case: 'Impossible for me to do my job':

In an exclusive interview, Attorney General Bill Barr told ABC News on Thursday that President Donald Trump "has never asked me to do anything in a criminal case” but should stop tweeting about the Justice Department because his tweets “make it impossible for me to do my job.”

Barr’s comments are a rare break with a president who the attorney general has aligned himself with and fiercely defended. But it also puts Barr in line with many of Trump’s supporters on Capitol Hill who say they support the president but wish he’d cut back on his tweets.

“I think it’s time to stop the tweeting about Department of Justice criminal cases,” Barr told ABC News Chief Justice Correspondent Pierre Thomas.
...
“I’m not going to be bullied or influenced by anybody ... whether it’s Congress, a newspaper editorial board, or the president,” Barr said. “I’m gonna do what I think is right. And you know … I cannot do my job here at the department with a constant background commentary that undercuts me.”

I knew he always did.... that's why I trust his judgment. Any bad news about Barr is fake news IMO.

Does anyone think this will deter Trump from continuing to comment? And how will Barr respond when Trump inevitably opens his big fat twitter mouth again to interfere with some other case? Will Barr stay strong or will be be bullied back.

We will see.

What I'm hearing is, "I don't like the heat! Quit drawing attention to me that way!" It's not about him wanting to uphold the law.

BTW, I wonder if any of the Republicans have suggested Trump keep his phone up his butt?

In Robert Bolt's great play, "A Man for All Seasons" (about Sir Thomas More), there is a wonderful dialogue that I think is apropos here:

William Roper: “So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!”

Sir Thomas More: “Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?”

William Roper: “Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!”

Sir Thomas More: “Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!”

I have thought for a long time that Donald Trump is the man to seriously damage your nation's dependence on its laws. He confounds every restraint -- and then is rewarded for it, which is why instead of learning from the recent impeachment debacle, he is doubling down.

And the Republicans in Washington will let him do it, because while it's embarrassing for them when they have to talk to the press in Washington, when they go home, their base loves 'em, and they can feel safer about reelection.

Do you think, does anybody really think, that in the 1930s anybody in Germany could have really understood when their government actually turned against them? And I think it's happening to you.

Yeah, it's nice to see that Barr has some backbone and is willing to stand up to our Bully-in-Chief.

Suddenly Barr is the darling of the left after people trashed him since he got the job. Hilarious.
