Good morning/afternoon/evening RFers:

I can lie. But God cannot. Why? That is against her nature? She can do anything and everything [like create something out of nothing] but she can NOT do something against her nature. Still, she is considered "omnipotent".

So, absent a further definition of omnipotence, perhaps we can define it as follows.

An entity is omnipotent if it can do EVERYTHING except those things that are against its nature.

I am a homo sapien. So, are you [I hope :run:]

Now, I can type on a computer. So can you. That is in accordance with our nature. But it is NOT in our nature to flap our arms and fly in the air like birds do.

Now, it is birds' nature to flap their wings and fly in the air. That is their nature. However, birds cannot type on a computer. That is against their nature.

So, it looks like God can do certain things but not certain other things [that I can do, for instance, lie] that are not within her nature. Yet she is considered omnipotent.

Applying the same definition to homo sapiens and birds, you, me and that birdie bird outside are all omnipotent.

Interesting that you use "she" when refering to "god". God is just "a spirit with an ego problem" and since spirits do not have gender (or a material body for that matter) the term "it" would probably be more applicable. Spirits are more of an intellegent organized energy form (if that makes any sense).

Also, the spirits pretending to be gods can lie. Their first lie - that they are a god....
Now just think about it for a second. If you are sitting there and suddenly a spirit appears before you. After your initial shock you calm down and begin to communicate. If this spirit says it is god, would you believe it? If it began following you around telling you different things and making things happen, would you then believe it is a god? Just something to think about...

BTW = I've also seen a chicken type on a keyboard (they will peck at just about anything)

Left Hand Path
For all you know, I'm a bird that learned to type, that created God and that expressed the laws of Nature and how that within the very limitations of nature is something that possibly could not be.

Whoa, sentence...fragment.

Silly! :p Are you comparing yourself, a human, to God, an all mighty supernatural being?

It's like comparing an apple seed to the entire universe... There's no matching it!!!

Nope...

I can create the universe ex nihilo...I do not because it is against my nature.

God is capable of lying...but he does not because it is against his nature.

If God is omnipotent, so am I.

If you disagree, please explain why?

Namaste robo.

I really enjoyed reading your initial post, highlights what I feel are some of the most important flaws in the idea of an all-perfect all-powerful deity. Many ancient cultures did not acknowledge the god(s) as being perfect beings capable of all and any conceivable action. Frubals for you my friend!

God can lie, he sure as hell did in the Bible...

2 Thessalonians 2:11 "...God shall send them strong delusion...."
1 Kings 22:23 "...the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee."
2 Chronicles 18:22 "...the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee."
Jeremiah 4:10 "...Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem...."
Jeremiah 20:7 "...O LORD, thou hast deceived me...."

How do you know Bhagavad Gita is not a lie?

That really doesn't answer my question.
I have never heart it that God cannot lie. Which religions or philosophies profess that he cannot lie?
