Beautiful Errors

Often, we hear of mistakes made, and there are grave consequences. Shame comes from errors. Problems come from errors.

Sometimes beauty comes from errors, too, though. Perhaps a mistake is the beginning of a life change. Perhaps a mistake starts a new friendship(my aunt and uncle met because she typed in an email address wrong). A lot of good recipes start this way.

What are some beautiful mistakes you can think of?

This is a place to share personal or religious stories of beautiful errors.

Alexander Fleming made the error of not cleaning his Petri dishes before he went on a holiday. An error that ultimately saved millions of lives.

Being we are all born with around 60-70 mutations, we are all beautiful errors.

Thinking about mistakes reminded me of John Cleese talk on the importance of mistakes. The good bit is describing how Gordon the guided missile kept making mistake after mistake but correcting them until he succeeded in blowing up the enemy's "thing" There's much more humor in this video, of course.

Long speech, but worth listening to.

The error culture of many companies and agencies, sadly, still is:

1. Who works makes errors.
2. Who works more makes more errors.
3. Who doesn't make errors gets promoted.

This was a picture I took a couple of years ago of a New Holland Honeyeater. It took off just as I pressed the shutter and everything but the head and the twig it was sitting on is motion blur. It's an error but is one of my favourite pics I've taken. I call it the New Holland death bomber.

Bird has that "see you in court buddy!" look.

Maybe you should have asked permission to photograph?
