In all religions, there are stories of people going through different trials and tribulations, to receive some great reward, usually in the form of a role or state of mind.

Most often, this person did not intend for this to be their life. Sometimes it comes upon them after some great despair or challenge, other times its something they want avoid and try to hide from.

What are your favorite religious stories on this topic?

Do you have any personal stories(about yourself or someone you know) on this topic?

What comes to my mind first is the story, presented in a movie, of the little boy that started the "Pay it forward" movement. Although the concept is an ancient one, from a play of 317 BC entitled "Dyskolos" it brought to modern society a strong reminder of what power we each have in the choices we make.

This may not be a religious story, but it certainly conveys the Golden Rule that can be found in them all.

The trials of Hercules come to mind, as does the hanging of Odin on Yggdrassil.

You know my story, and don't typically share that publicly.

Seeking, yes. He was an active searcher as opposed to passive.

Something I considered myself as well. Yet, I Still *stumbled* upon what I found as opposed to "finding" it in a similar fashion.
Were you seeking, would you say?

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I never saw myself living alone at age 58, being a widow, etc. I lost so many loved ones in such a short period of time that I began to feel numb to it all. It's been terrible, but I do believe I am being honed into someone I wasn't at first. I think overall it's good character development.

How would you say your character has been developed?

What does serious mean in this context?
Well, everything seemed to come easily to me for a long time, so I wasn't really SERIOUS about anything. Now I am. Hope that makes sense. I say everything seemed to come easily for me - FAIRLY easily! Not super easily but fairly easily.
