Behead those who convert Hindus: Togadia - Indian Express

VHP international general secretary Pravin Togadia on Monday called for a new Indian Constitution that allows for “anyone who converts Hindus to be beheaded”.

Workers of the VHP from across the country had gathered here, many of them staying in the dargah premises for the three-day conference, causing a lot of anxiety for the police, Monday being Eid-ul-Azha.

Asaram Bapu’s son Narayan Sai, who also came for the concluding ceremony on Monday, said, “I would suggest that we Hindus should include Buddhists, Sikhs and Jains because their line of thinking is no different from Hindus, except for a few small habits.”

Oh for the love of God!
There's no good reason for Hindus to ever think that any action should be dealt with through killing. That is sanctioned in some other religions only, so why stoop so low? It really bothers me.

There must be some way to deal with the manipulative conversions in India without thinking of violence.

Yeah, it bothers me as well. They have forgotten the fundamental concept of non-violence in Hinduism.

In my opinion, education is important. Education about one's religion.

Plus, it's well known that some places will coerce people; for example, digging wells in villages outside of churches/mosques and not allowing non-Christians/non-Muslims to use the wells, so they have to go elsewhere, and so on. Combating that by investing in villages' fundamentals (wells, schooling and literacy) is important, too.

My opinion, anyway. :)

In a country of a billion people, you're going to get at least one of everything -- even some nutcase who wants to behead people.

We are fortunate that there are only a few people within Hinduism that think like that. Of course if anything like that did happen, our laws and courts would deal with the people.

I remember riding in India with a friend who was a lawyer. As he drove past a jail, he said, "You don't really want to go in there."

But the conversion tactics are really nasty sometimes. Food being withheld, jobs for the converted, and such. I can understand how people who have strayed even a bit from the disciplines of ahimsa could get frustrated, but obviously this goes to far. Laws banning certain aspects of proseltysing would be enough. That and education as to its harm.

The VHP are right-wing militants.
Authoritarianism is an equal opportunity affliction.

Wont they be reincarnated into Hinduism again anyway?

But yeah, that's dumb that they behead people for religion.

I thought it was just the RSS or some other militant sub-group of VHP, but I'm probably wrong. Can you explain? It seems to have more to do with Indian politics than religion anyway.

Meh, seems too much like a fatalistic approach for my liking there.

It's not so much that the people are de-converting, but it's a reaction to the dirty conversion tactics used by a significant chunk of Abrahamic missionaries in India, which have been described by some of us in previous posts (things like coercion with jobs, "my-religion-only" wells, and so on and so forth.

This has made some crazies call for crazy ideas to be implemented to stem the tide.

Naturally, it's against Hindu philosophy to hurt people and Hinduism strives on the principles of non-injury, but hopefully this man's insane opinion can be ignored whilst the thing that caused it can be addressed and something good can come out of it. My view anyway. :)

Dharmapala
Hindus, like all Dharmic religions, accept the idea of ahimsa, or nonviolence to any and all sentient beings. This here is not a case of Hinduism, as most here have pointed out, but of politics.
