Here is the topic to discuss. Sorry about the length I wanted it complete.
It used to be that a king made 100,000 x what his peasants made.
The difference has gradually gotten reduced. Now the president makes $400,000/yr.
It is inevitable that it will be reduced as people can afford the same educations and so on and things become automated.
Eventually everyone will gain the same salary so we can have no money. This sounds like communism, but actually it is the result of weeding out class warfare and the gap between rich and poor.
Another difference with communism is that if you are on welfare in America you can get off of welfare, whereas in a communist country you can also but I guess it is illegal. Many take advantage of programs to get off of the safety nets.
Of course, we can delay everyone getting equal or hasten it. If we delay it, we hurt our economy on the way because there is more desperate behavior from the poor that doesn't help the good guys. If we hasten it, change hurts but that helps us reach our goal.
It is a myth that a lot of people just give in to poverty so they can be taken care of. There aren’t generations of families on welfare and people try to get off of food stamps as soon as they can. Many of them are disabled and many can’t get High School diplomas. One who has a good education knows these people are desperate, not lazy.
By the way measuring the gap between classes is subjective.
Currently under this administration the economy seems to be doing very good, but many complain that the racial gap is getting worse.
So since the right wing slows down the equality and the left wing brings it up, and since Obama is helping the economy and debatably the poor are complaining, I think Bernie Sanders would be a great candidate.
Bernie Sanders wants to help the underpaid and overworked. By definition they deserve more pay.
