Best Stand up Specials?

an anarchist

Your local loco.
Richard Pryor is one of my favorite comedians. One of his earlier specials he recorded is a 1971 set called Live And Smokin , which was recorded before he was famous. This one is my favorite comedy special of all time for a couple reasons.
He wasn’t famous yet, so he doesn’t have a roaring crowd for him the second he walks on stage, as he does with his later specials when he is famous. People even walk out during the special. Richard Pryor has to really try to get these people to laugh. I feel like this special kicked down a lot of doors that modern comedians are still going through. It is as controversial as it is funny.
You can find the whole special on YouTube.

I'm torn between Carlin and Gaffigan.

Probably Carlin..."Life is Worth Losing" is one of his best works.

Not sure what you mean by special, but my favourite comedian is Stewart Lee.
