That's a good point. I hadn't thought about that angle.No. If the enemy knows about something, then there's absolutely no reason for withholding it from the public. The only reason our government should classify anything at all top secret is so the enemy doesn't find out. But if the enemy already knows about it - and we know the enemy knows - then there's no point in keeping it secret.
I would bet my last dollar that, if the truth were ever to come out, the vast majority of classified information is stuff our adversaries already know about. I suspect the only reason anything remains secret at all is to protect government employees and politicians from legal charges and potential embarrassment (and perhaps to whitewash history), not for any legitimate reasons of national security.
That is really not from MSM, that is from the not very reliable New York Post. I do not know how easy it was for our military to spot it. This had been going on for quite some time.
