It becomes more obvious day by day that both are unfit for office. The parties are only holding on to them for tactical reasons. They may make it to the election (or not), but it is questionable whether they would be inaugurated. Voting for either is a vote for their VP/running mate.

Running the country is basically a figure of speech. Its always been used in that way.

No, they’re both too old and Trump is too much of a cretin. As a general rule I think that in Europe we tend to prefer people who see the job of running a country as just that, a job, and not an opportunity to draw attention to themselves, i.e. people who are less old but more mature. That may be changing, though, a few bizarre characters have crept into European politics fairly recently, or in some places, like Italy, they’ve been creeping around for a while.
