Biden makes no sense.

I will say this. Biden years ago was far more articulate then he is now, which is why its disconcerting that he has been chosen when his degradation is so obvious.

I tend to think the real reason is the selection of Harris whom I think/suspect is going to be a covert backdoor president. I dont see Biden finishing out a presidential term if elected, leaving Harris behind the reigns of power for the DNC, to actually run the country.
Probably. He’s very old. It is a concern.

But I’m glad you posted the OP because when I listened to his speech I was practically jumping on the table with applause. Biden perfectly articulated so many reasons he’s by far a better candidate than our current quack president, Dr Trump. It was a much better speech than I had expected.

Thanks for that.

By the way it’s not really covert or backdoor if Harris becomes president.

She’s his running mate. She ran for president. It’s no secret the VP is next in line of succession and VP’s normally run for President next. Biden’s age is no secret any more than Trump’s baldness, obesity and lack of tan.

Bottom line is most people I would think, would rather see action than talk.

I'm not sure if Biden is that type of person.

While poking fun at Biden's speech impediment, let's also take a quick listen to Trump, repeatedly saying Biden's running mate's first name -- it's only 30 seconds in.

Now, for those of you who can't figure out what he's doing, he is being deliberately racist here. Kamala is not a nice, American-sounding name like Don or George or Billy-Bob -- or Alice or Grace or Beulah! So he is deliberately implanting that little racist spin into the minds of his supporters.

Now, I'm sure not a single one of you Trump supporters harbours even the slightest hint of racist, so what do you think of that?
I'd call it a creative statement.

I think Biden is just a cover to enable Harris to aquire the presidency.

Why? I dont know yet fully, but Bidens choice of running mate seems to be chosen for him.

Thats just my own take on it.

Well, first of all I have to say that, thanks to the detective work by @Mr Spinkles it seems this little extract was, after all, genuine. So I owe you an apology for suggesting you were promoting a doctored video.

The relevant passage is this:
"And yes, we did it with democratic mayors in most of the major cities in this country. The murder right now is up 26% across the nation this year under Donald Trump. Do you really feel safer under Donald Trump? COVID has taken this year, just since the outbreak, has taken more than 100… Look, the lives, when you think about it, more lives this year than any other year for the past 100 years. More than 180,000 lives in just six months, an average of 1,000 people dying every day in the month of August. Do you really feel safe under Donald Trump? Mr. Trump, you want to talk about fear? Do you know what people are afraid of in America? Afraid they’re going to get COVID. They’re afraid they’re going to get sick and die. And that is in no small part because of you. We’re now on track to more than 200,000 deaths in this country due to COVID. More than 100,000 seniors have lost their lives to the virus."

In the passage in red, Biden clearly did get his words in a tangle and had to restart that section of his speech. I understand from other contributors that all his life he has had to struggle with a speech impediment - a stutter. Actually, almost any speaker can get in a tangle at some point in the course of a 30 minute address. There does not seem to me to be any evidence, in this speech as a whole, of a failure to make coherent points, or of mental decline.

It's quite a good critique of the Trump style of presidency in fact.

I've no argument against your assessment.
But there should be a discussion about Biden's mental
problems....something more than "Trump is worse".

As far as just Biden goes, I agree that he doesn't sound good. He seems unable to finish words/sentences/thoughts. It seems he doesn't recollect things clearly when speaking extemporaneously. Sometimes it's hard to tell how much of his difficulty is due to some sort of motor speech problem vs a mental problem. I wish he wasn't the Dem candidate.

It just exemplifies just how messed and screwed up people are.

Putting a person one doesn't like, much less adore, and then proactively backing and endorsing that person as one's apex leader is nothing less than a form of collective mental illness/insanity imv. Its flat out irrational.

It makes me wonder now if we ever had a president that the entire country respected and adored as an apex leader.
Clearly, some Democrats like him.
(He did win the nomination process.)
I just can't recall knowing any of them.

It's likely that we'll be voting President Harris into office.
And she's not getting much scrutiny from those who'll do it.

This is the full unedited video of his 30 minute speech.

Joe Biden Delivers Remarks on Public Safety and Law Enforcement | C-SPAN.org

If you listen to the whole thing, he makes a ton of sense, point after point, issue after issue, as he absolutely destroys Donald Trump.

Go ahead and listen and judge for yourself.

If you go to about the 13 minute mark, he does indeed stutter and trip over his words. Sorry fellow liberals - turns out that part was not faked, like other fake stuff the Trump campaign has put out.

But if you continue watching, he quickly recovers and continues laying out point after point demolishing Trump, better than I could. The “Trump War Room” doesn’t want you to see any of that.
Thank you @Mr Spinkles ! Almost 5 pages in and now we can finally address the point that the OP was trying to present.
And as expected, there’s not really anything of a point to discuss.
Both candidates are the oldest candidates the US has ever put forward. Both are less articulate now than they were as younger men.
I personally would have wished that the founding fathers had put an upper age limit on the office along with the lower age limit. But back in their day, almost all people were dead and buried by the time they got to either of our current candidates’ ages.

PS - Yes. It was a very good speech.

You have failed to demonstrate Trump is any kind of person to address the problems of the country as the bottom line. How about healthcare?

Remember you started this thread with a dishonest bogus edited film clip.

Good point, if not in the first term then maybe in 4 years from now. But at least both Biden and Harris are professionals with a relevant track record of public service and neither of them is extreme.

Speaking as an outsider, watching with considerable nervousness, I think what the USA needs above all is a series of presidencies that can get the country out of its current death-spiral of internal antagonisms. (It will take more than one and probably more than two.)

Looking at Biden's "public service" record, it is indeed
pretty extreme, eg, pro-war, the 1994 Crime Bill.
His record is actually worse than Trump's.

Thats fine. Its going to be a win win situation either way because people might finally realize that this 2 party monopoly cannot continue going down the path that it is in light of the caliber of the chosen nominees of whom are expected to lead this country.
And then... what? The two party monopoly unexpectedly cracks open and new mainstream parties magically drop from the sky?
People start voting Libertarians, Greens and Communists into offices for no reason?

I think the most apt comparison is Obama/Biden record during their two terms vs Trump’s record in this term.

When Biden left office unemployment was at a record low (which Trump said were phony numbers at the time) and Bin Laden was dead.

After Trump’s first term you have this.

Biden was not even remotely responsible for employment
levels in Ameristan. He was simply second banana to
Obama at the time. But if one were to credit him for
the economy, then he'd own the extremely slow recovery
in those 8 years. But that too would be a facile connection.

Instead, look at what he personally effected. The 1994
Crime Bill was his baby, & he owns its consequences.

On the key issue I am talking about? Really?
If it's about easing hostilities, Biden's record is relevant.
The Crime Bill caused a massive increase in jailing
minorities (& of course whites too).
His record doesn't show him to be the leader behind
criminal justice reform.

I see. I presume you don't see Trump as better in this respect, though, do you?
