Biden Out!

Is he in prison for it?
How goes the trial with Fani Willis?
When will the Documents case trial happen?
Trump is a master of delay. The documents case was "thrown out" but not only is that decision under appeal and highly likely to be overturned, but that could easily get the judge that has been delaying the trial as much as possible for Trump thrown off of the case. She has continually shown bias for Trump and has already been overturned once. With a new judge the trial may not end before the election, but there is no valid excuse for it to not be going on until the election and even beyond. If that happens that will bring up all of Trump's law breaking in that case out to the public.

Prediction, Trump is going to continue to attack Biden. But half his attacks are now gone. Trump can continue to attack Biden's record, but Biden's record is objectively good. So those attacks will not be effective. And attacks against Biden's age and competency are now meaningless.
Crime is decreasing. That is objective. How many Reps and MAGAs accept that fact?

Kamala Harris' statement:

“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. His remarkable legacy of accomplishment is unmatched in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many Presidents who have served two terms in office.

“It is a profound honor to serve as his Vice President, and I am deeply grateful to the President, Dr. Biden, and the entire Biden family. I first came to know President Biden through his son Beau. We were friends from our days working together as Attorneys General of our home states. As we worked together, Beau would tell me stories about his Dad. The kind of father—and the kind of man—he was. And the qualities Beau revered in his father are the same qualities, the same values, I have seen every single day in Joe’s leadership as President: His honesty and integrity. His big heart and commitment to his faith and his family. And his love of our country and the American people.

“With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above everything else.

“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election. And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.

“We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.”

Won’t pretty much every candidate support Israel as it’s US’s ally?
In as much as that goes, sure. But there are several significant circunstances at work here.

Israel has been testing the limits of what it can get away with, perhaps to an unprecedented level (or, at the very least, since 1973 or so). Much to the decay of its international reputation and standing, it must be said.

Then again, there are levels of support and of challenge. Several times before there was some level of significant friction between former POTUS and Prime Ministers of Israel, as one would expect.

Finally, there is the inherent volatility and danger of foreign policies regarding the Middle East, particularly Israel and the surrounding territories. There are quite a few foreign interests at play there as well.

Myself, I deeply regret that there isn't more criticism and scrutinity of the situation there from the Arab and Iranian side. I truly feel that Israel and to some degree the USA are being blamed for things well beyond their control or even significant influence, and that it is well past time to make serious challenges to the expectations of Muslim majority communities worldwide.

But I have to admit that the current Israeli government encouraged a lot of people to turn their attention and criticisms towards Israel instead. Many more people are painfully aware of the massacres than even remember their immediate cause, let alone having awareness of the history of the larger conflict.

That harm for Israel's reputation and diplomatic stance may well be the worst tragedy of this whole situation - or perhaps the second worst, after the effects on the Dems chances for the next ellection.

But I fully expect that someone closer to the region and/or to the Muslim community worldwide may have... very deep disagreements with me on this matter.

What are her views, policies? She hasn't even campaigned yet for people to know what she's about--unless you count when she lost big-time in the primaries and had to drop out because she was doing so miserably. But then she became useful to Joe as because she met the "black woman" qualification for VP. Hasn't done anything to show that she has any other qualifications.
I don't doubt you.

As it turns out, that makes her enormously more qualified than Trump from the get-go.

We are in THAT surreal a situation.

Because Biden shows his age. Trump has aged very well by comparison.
You certainly wouldn't have seen Biden look so agile after taking a bullet.
Were the dispute for a competition of physical abilities, I would choose Trump.

But it is not. By the criteria that matter, Trump has no business even dreaming of being a contender.

CNN is reporting that Harris is considering these people for her VP. Are the best qualified candidates only white males? WTAF? Hope this is just speculation rather than inside information.

Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro
She still has to consider the demographics, and let's be fair, progress is the Turtle in the race. How long between Shirley Chisholm and Obama? How long between Geraldine Ferraro and Harris? Patience helps to bring calm.

The continuing argument of those who don't mind she was made VP simply for being a black woman.
to say that you have to ignore her career as a US senator
you have to ignore her accomplishments as Attorney General of California
and of course you have to pretend that he years of public services as a district attorney just never happened

an awful lot to dismiss just just to then judge her on her race(s. That sure sounds...umm .... what's the right word, exactly?

To be fair the idea of calling people with even the least bit of African American blood in them black arose from the racist concept that one drop of black blood meant that a person was not "white".

Which also extends to the tribal blood purity tests implemented to determine federally eligible native American tribes / members. "Blood quantum". Started in 1705 in the colonies.

How about Harris? She seems to keep a pretty low profile, at least that’s how it seems outside of the US. Gives a general impression of being a bit rabbit in the headlights. Is she up to the job?

Perhaps. But if your highschool teacher signed up to teach you for the whole school year, would you really resent her if she bowed out in February for medical reasons? Are people so shallow as to expect others to live up to their promises, even if they happen to become unexpectly incapacitated?

I wouldn't resent the teacher at all in that situation, but I'm wondering whether enough voters would to have a tangible effect on the election. Hopefully not, since all of Biden's likely replacements would be a major improvement over Trump either way.

Almost certainly yes. Support takes different forms and can be handled in different ways, though. Unconditional support is different from reined-in support is different from applying some pressure to try to prevent or reduce the extent of specific actions, among other possible approaches. That and opposing certain policies wouldn't have to necessitate opposing all of a country's other policies or halting support for it in all other ways.

I'm under no illusion that any candidate in the near future could make a U-turn on specific policies without facing massive backlash both from his or her party and Congress, but I think much more could have been done than what Biden did, hence my opinion of him.

I won't be able to add more on this topic in this thread, though, as it is not the focus of the thread. I'd still be happy to discuss it elsewhere if you'd like.

Evidence (other than your usual conspiracy theories)?

Evidence?

I notice that you ignore religion causing US support
for Israel's brutality. So many Christians & Jews here
favor it that politician's cater to them, lest they lose
office. That might be changing....
- Israel's brutal genocide is changing minds.
- Israel is expensive to prop up.
- Younger voters are less tolerant of hypocritical
deadly US policy against Muslims.
- The Muslim vote is increasing. They're powerful
here in MI.
Politicians don't cater to anyone but their donors. They pander to everyone else and then do whatever their donors tell them once elected.

A good preview would be the first day when Biden told Harris to go down to the border and check it out , and she essentially said in no uncertain terms something to the effect of, "screw you" and did nothing.
