Im just looking up who Billy Graham was cuz i heard despite as loved as he was in NC he was actually very horrible and an aspiring war criminal. While I was looking up the war criminal thing I found a tape. Billy Graham said he didn't ever discuss policy with Nixon well...still reading up on the claims Billy Graham was an aspiring war criminal.

I wonder if it has to do with this:

"Back in April, 1989, a Graham memo to Nixon was made public. It took the form of a secret letter from Graham, dated April 15, 1969, drafted after Graham met in Bangkok with missionaries from Vietnam. These men of God said that if the peace talks in Paris were to fail, Nixon should step up the war and bomb the dikes. Such an act, Graham wrote, 'could overnight destroy the economy of North Vietnam.'"

Editorially, The Tampa Bay Times typically endorses Democratic candidates. For example, they have endorsed the Democratic Presidential Candidate every time since 1980. Further, in local elections, such as in 2018, they endorsed all Democratic candidates. A review of the Opinion section also reveals a left-leaning bias with most editorials favorable to liberal policies such as this: Two steps up, one step back on Florida voting rights | Editorial. The Tampa Bay Times generally reports news factually and with minimal bias; however, editorially, they lean moderately left.

Overall, we rate The Tampa Bay Times Left-Center biased based on editorial positions that mostly favor the left. We also rate them High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing of information and a clean fact check record. (D. Van Zandt 5/18/2016) Updated (12/21/2022)

I have tried to track down the text of the actual letter from Graham to Nixon, but haven't been successful. Other sites report this, but they all seem to link back to each other. Still, it's the best I could find to explain why some people may consider Graham a war criminal.

Here is an NPR article that link to a Politico article about it: https://www.npr.org/2018/02/24/5878...etted-crossing-over-it-when-it-came-to-politi

He was publicly pro-Vietnam War and very anti-communist.

That comment hardly makes Graham a war criminal, or even an aspiring one. And labeling him one is stupid and misleading.

During that war my own father would likely have said something similar, as well as most adult American males of his generation. That hardly makes them all war criminals, or wannabes.

It would technically make him a wannabe if it's an action he condoned and attempted to influence the Commander-in-chief to take.

I doubt very much that he attempted to convince Nixon of that, and it's not what has been reported. If my dad had said something like that, it would have been because he believed in war as a last resort, and once it becomes inevitable, you fight to win. As decisively and as quickly as possible, so as to save as many of your own people's lives as possible.

Everyone is a criminal in a war.

MacNamara in his deathbed confessed the Tonkin incident never happened. It was a scam.

He confessed because he probably was terrified by Hellfire (which he didn't avoid, I guess).

Nixon, beginning with an election strategy, scuttled the Pris peace talks and prolonged the Vietnam war war by five years, with 20,000 additional American deaths, not to mention Cambodian, Vietnamese and Laotian deaths.
Reagan did essentially the same thing in Iran. Cf: "October surprise."

Politicians, especially on the Right, don't care about lives. They care about money and power. Their ends justify their means.

The military industrial complex wanted a war, and they got one. The Red Scare managed to panic enough politicians to accept a Communist Menace conspiracy theory, giving the military unquestioned support.

JFK would have been against this war. He had to go.
All those American soldiers who died...cannon fodder you know...for them.
Of course WW2 hadn't been enough. They needed more American soldiers to go die somewhere in Asia.
