Birthplace of Buddha?

Birthplace of Buddha has been a big debate for years and years. With peculiar historical evidence as well as proven facts clearly denote that Buddha was born in Lumbini (which now lies in Nepal) but the authorities from India, even the big media house are denying the fact as a hoax and are claiming that Buddha was born in India, not in Nepal! I want to know on what basis are the Indian authorities and media are persistently claiming that Buddha was born in India but not in Nepal.

Nepal was a principality of Bharatavarsa , India was a title given at a later date to encompas a group but not all of the bharata principalities .

at the time of Buddhas birth things were very different to how we see things now , all the principalities of bharatavarsa were vedic in origin , Lord Buddha was born in a vedic comunity only in more recent times have the boundarys been so clearly defined . also we need to consider that Buddhism was once wide spread in india untill the early invaisions of the muslims who ransacked the buddhist monestarys and seats of learning , which caused the Buddhist comunities to flee to the further flung parts of the Bharata empire and establish where the muslims had no desire to follow .
in this way the old empire became split and the title india aplied to the central portion .

Indeed there was no boundaries back then but still naming the current place as a territory of india doesn't only raises the question of the birthplace but also regarding sovereignty in Nepal as the often land encroachment from Indian officials in Nepal's side of the border has left Nepalese people furious over it.

I am perplexed , ...when are buddhists going to start practicing non attatchment?
in truth who can posess land one only has the illusion of holding title over it ???
