"Black History Month."

You're right, but I don't care about it THAT MUCH to start something with the school board..
They're not nice at all, and it's not good to be on their bad side :/
Especially when I deal with them personally for early graduation requests.
So you are merely venting.

But what I'm saying is, I've never been to one.
So obviously, they arn't hugely affecting to others..
But here's the difference: lots and lots of people choose to celebrate Black History Month. Fewer people may celebrate these other holidays, but theres absolutely nothing stopping anyone from doing this.

If it bothers you that some other culture is celebrated more than yours, then celebrate your own culture. Don't begrudge people over the fact that they choose to celebrate theirs.

I'm just baffled that a 4 week recognition of a culture's contributions in a country where year round it's European influences are celebrated would upset so many people.

Done here.
Personally, I'm not offended by a black history month but it would be nice to see other cultures take the spotlight every now and then as well.
Then feel to participate in:

Irish History Month (March)
Greek-American Heritage Month (March)
Women's History Month (March)
Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month (May)
Gay Pride Month (June)
German American Heritage Month (15 September - 15 October)
Hispanic Heritage Month (15 September - 15 October)
National Italian American Heritage Month (October)
Gay History Month (October)
Polish American Heritage Month (October)
European American Heritage Month (October)
Disability Employment Awareness Month (October)
American Indian Heritage Month (November)
Arab American Heritage Month (varies from place to place and from year to year)

it just infuriates me how "black pride" is perfectly acceptable, but "white pride" is racist.
People think so because most people who celebrate "white pride" are racist -- usually crudely and outspokenly racist. Most white people who are not racist celebrate whatever their particular heritage is -- Irish or Scottish, for instance. Personally, I don't give a **** about being "white" as such, though I can go on at some length about my German, Irish, Native American, Alsatian, Quaker, Moravian, North Carolina, Hillbilly, Methodist, Catholic, Wisconsin, New Jersey, or Maine heritage.

Is it just me, or is that extremely racist? The idea of having to have a seperate month for the history of a certain race? Why not just put all of the history together and call it history? If we don't, we are going to need a Hispanic History Month, an Asian History Month, an English History Month, and so on... I thought a long time ago this country figured seperate but equal wasn't equal, so why is our history seprated based on race?

I see what you mean...Others here have pretty much said what I wanted to say. But here's another thing....I notice that a lot of kids, especially African American kids, still don't know very much about their history in this country let alone that of their history in Africa or other places around the world. Black History month can be a good thing because it shows the kids just how much contribution to this society blacks have given. If it's just in with the mainstream history then you only get a name or three thrown in as a contribution but during the month you get a lot more.

I'm quite surprised that in a country based on Christian Values that we so strongly support and encourage one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Which Sin? (I don't know all of the sins, because no one ever taught them to me, so I don't know what you mean) There's lust, sloth, gluttony... I can't think of any more.

Pride

Listed in the same order used by both Pope Gregory the Great in the 6th century, and later by Dante Alighieri in his epic poem The Divine Comedy, the seven deadly sins are as follows: luxuria (extravagance, later lust), gula (gluttony), avaritia (greed), acedia (sloth), ira (wrath), invidia (envy), and superbia (pride). Each of the seven deadly sins has an opposite among the corresponding seven holy virtues (sometimes also referred to as the contrary virtues). In parallel order to the sins they oppose, the seven holy virtues are chastity, temperance, charity, diligence, patience, kindness, and humility.

Depends Upon My Mood..
But you can have pride..and still be humble. Is it deadly for me to be "proud" of my children? Is it deadly to have some pride in myself while still maintaining humililty?

Absence of any pride would make you not even care about your own well being..Or those you love.

Do you know what our children love hearing most? I love you..and I am so proud of you.

Imagine this..I love you..but I have no ounce of pride where you are concerned.Because that is a deadlly sin.

"Hey mommy!! I got an A in math..brought it up from a C".."Are you proud of me"?..

"Of course not son..thats deadly.."
