Blizzard!!!!

We have a blizzard here in Iqaluit right now! I can't see across the street! It's crazy! I'm about to go run around outside in shorts and t-shirt, just for kicks. Don't worry, though, I won't stray far from the house. (Last time we had a huge blizzard, my sister got lost outside, and I had to go find her. She had gotton blown down this valley, and couldn't stand up because the valley had increased the wind speed with a funnel effect. When I found her, we had to camp out beside a large metal crate for a while. It was cold!)

Just thought I'd let you guys know!

If it's all the same with you you can keep the blizzards...we are getting our first significant snow event(supposed to be 12"+) and I need to move to Fla and go diving with NetDoc and look at all those fossils.

Druidus, you're crazy to go out in shorts and a T shirt! Can't you at least wait until the blizzard is over? What madness has possessed you to do this????

The shock of the cold is fun, Sunstone. It's like skydiving. The fund resides in the rush of epenepherines. I'm back now though. Man is it cold!

Isn't that endomorphines? At any rate, I get it now. Makes sense, as long as you don't get lost in the blizzard and freeze to death. Methinks there is method in your madness.

We are having a slightly less blizzard effect here. However, my upstairs neighbors decided to have a drunkfest last night and into this morning. At 2 AM I was awaked by my husband going out in 10 below zero temps in order to tell the neighbors that if they did nto quiet down the cops would be called. I could not fall back to sleep because they started pacing back and forth and cussing up a storm as long as could be while making threats about me. (Not that I am worried mind you, I am a fiesty lil witch and stand up to guys twice my size) Anyways, back to the topic of cold. At 2:30 this morning one of the guys from upstairs decided to try walking somewhere with only a t-shirt and jeans on. He was definietly drunk. Just this week we had a retired dentist die in his front yard from the below zero temps. I plan on checking the news continuously to see if this guy ended up the same way just in case the officals need information about how it could have happened. Part of my reasoning is (regretfully I admit it is because of my own sick sense of poetic justice if the other partiers can be held accountable for it,) but also a part of me believes that if I know something I should tell.

No matter how twisted and angry I am at these people I do sincerely hope that the guy made it to wherever he was going safely.

I was caught in a blizzard while cross country snow skiing just outside of Pocatello Idaho. I got to snuggle with two gorgeous girls for the duration. It was scary, but fortunately it lasted only a couple of hours and we were dressed for it.

Other than that, we don't get them often down here, except in the convenience stores. They always give me an "ice cream" headache though, so I avoid them.

The snow has been coming down non-stop now since 5 am eastern time here in Pennsylvania. The snow is actually moving across my window. Snowing horizontally. It's 4pm now.

The power sometimes goes out up here from the cold, ice and wind, but thankfully the most important things in the house are hooked up to their own UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply). Microwave, refridgerator, phone, TV, VCR, DVD, 2 Lamps, blender, and water dispenser.

This computer station has one of course. :)

Maybe it's a Canadian thing like the Polar Bear Club.

You're from Colorado. I once lived there to go to school. Don't people go out in t-shirts and shorts like they do in Chicago when the weather isn't that bad?

My brother used to show up in overalls during winter in NYC when I was there. His statement was that Chicago has 60 below zero days with the wind chill and that at 0 degree's NYC weather seemed balmy.

I went swimming in -14 weather once a long time ago.

Of course it was the Hot Springs in Idaho, and while you were sitting on the side of the pool trying to cool down, your hair froze solid. Too neat!

While departing, my cousin was combing her hair, and broke the last six inches off. She was mortified beyond compare as she was getting married in just a few weeks.

well the storm is predicted to reach me in just two hours and last till 6 pm tomorrow. I love blizzards, the power of the storm is magnificent. And sadly we could use the snow, we havent had much this winter. :(
Sounds nice on the surface but we need the snow not only for the ecconomy, (big ski areas here in NH) but the warm weather has interfeared with hibernation for many animals and the Sugar Maples who need the cold to store the sap we use to make syrup. Also the snowpack will provide many of us with the water we need to last through the summer months.
So yippie snow! I'm just not looking forward to traveling. :biglaugh:

It is now 11:18 AM EST here in Elmira, New York. It is -6 degrees Fahrenheit due to wind chill.

According to my hubby we received 8 inches of snow since 10 AM yesterday and there is more coming down.

I woke up this morning at 9 AM and there was one even layer of snow from the drifting and continuous snow showers. The sidewalk was covered and the snow reached the second step of 3 to my porch.

IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are still going to have snow until Wednesday I believe. The only thing I hate about the snow is trying to walk places in it. Especially where people are either unable to shovel their sidewalks or where the people are too flippin' lazy to.

What I really hate is the drastic changes in our weather. It has caused me and my 4 year old to have a terrible cold and/or flu. Right now I have a bad chest cold that is starting to take my voice away. Thank goodness I no longer work in a call center or I would be worthless tomorrow.

I hope everyone that is in areas where there are dangerous conditions stay safe and get through it without too much inconvenience or loss.

well storm seems to have ended a bit early... we only ended up with a bit over a foot. Down south of me it got hit much harder, two feet or more.
Everything is so pretty covered in white. I love it, at least untill I have to go out in it ;)

Nasty weather here in Virginia as well. I love snow, but sleet and freezing rain on top is detestable! Over the last few days, I've had some adventures in the icky stuff we've got here. One involved taking a back road and getting my car stuck in a gigantic rut/pothole. Had to walk the rest of the way to my parents' house. I hope the stuff melts soon....parking lots and driveways here are virtual skating rinks right now. :(
