Blunder of the year?

A branch of the Tesco supermarket chain put up a sign about Ramadan, complete with a rather inappropriate product!

I don't see what the big deal is about this -- the product (at least in the US) is kosher supervised and "Parve" meaning that there are no dairy or meat ingredients in it at all. Is it inappropriate to have imitation flavors? If Muslims shouldn't eat pig products, is this product equally inappropriate all year round?

HaHa, that is pretty funny, in an awesomely clueless way.
But it made me wonder. Assuming the smoky bacon flavoring is no more connected to pork than buttery margarine is connected to cows, is the product still haram?

I can't speak on their behalf, but I believe I remember both Jews and Muslims saying it's kosher/halal as long as it's not actual pork.

I'm just glad to start seeing Islam increasingly used as a marketing device around the world. There's nothing that takes the teeth out of religion like turning it into a consumerist prop.

This is quite funny, thanks for the chuckles.

Though I will have to point out it's smoky bacon "flavour". What it means, there's no actual bacon in it. I know that Pringles and other crisps tend to be vegetarian regardless of what it says the flavour is. It's created artificially. Oh and also, bacon can be made of other animals than pigs... Turkey bacon for instance. I much preferred it over conventional bacon when I was eating meat. Now I have the vegetarian sort.

I discovered this awhile back.
I did my moms shopping for a long time. One of the things she wouldn't eat was red meat, including beef and pork. Who knew that a dash of dioxin and nuclear waste would make turkey taste like bacon, ham, and sausage?

I like turkey bacon too.
It's just different from pig based bacon (the king of cured meats).

At the engine show I attended last week, one vendor cured his own bacon.....brine cured, & then smoked.

So when something isn't real, its OK to partake when God's law says its wrong?

How far do we take this? Video games are full of gory bloodshed and violence of all descriptions. Is it OK to kill and maim people for entertainment as long as they are not real? ? ? o_O

God said that you can't consume turkey if it's prepared in a way that's somewhat similar to a way that pork is sometimes prepared? Really?

Well of course, considering no lives are actually lost.

Was "Bludner" in the title purposeful whimsy?
Yes. I've seen it several time over the years in British newspaper headlines, but evidently it creates problems in the US. Congratulations for at least being quicker on the uptake than RabbiO. Actually, quite a few people seem a bit slow on the uptake here! Surely one might expect a product described as "bacon flavoured" to be flavoured with bacon?

It's not much of a challenge for anybody to be quicker on the uptake than I am. I'm an official, card carrying, old person.

Ehh I remember at my work we have like free monthly food magazines. In the middle of one was an ad for "celebrating Diwali" to promote those curry in a jar things. And the ad featured all sorts of meat dishes.
My friends and I joked that the tagline of the ad should be "Help Celebrate Diwali. By cooking every single dish forbidden on Diwali."

I can''t really decide if the OP was just a whimsical mistake or if Pringles is just trollin.

Yes! Of course it is! They're flipping pixels not sentient aware beings. You may as well accuse every author in the world who has killed off a character in their work of being "murderers!" Which is practically every author to ever exist.
Oh and FYI, many games have no such gory bloodshed or even violence. Like what are you playing, mate? Nothing but COD and Rockstar Games? There's far more out there than that.

And legitimate killing and maiming people for entertainment was actually a real thing at one time. So if anything we've improved in that regard.
