Body Hair

Bastet

Vile Stove-Toucher
Well, I was admiring my inch-long armpit hair after my shower today, and I got to wondering about body hair. People have really funny reactions to it, I've noticed.

Take my own, for instance - it's the middle of winter here, and nobody's seeing my hairy bits but me, so I don't see the point in doing the ritual ridding of body hair (I'll admit it, I'm just too dang lazy, and the yeti boots keep my legs warm). But if I happen to mention that my armpit hair is 8 times longer than the hair on my head, I have people going "Ewwwwwww!", and screwing up their faces. I find it really funny. Is it because I'm a woman? Is it because I'm sharing something about a part of my body that is generally considered 'taboo'? Is it taboo because I'm a woman?

I came out with the above random comment about the length of my pit hair at work the other week, while in the company of two guys. One was practically gagging almost immediately; the other wanted to see it. :biglaugh: So, I gave him a peek up my shirt sleeve, and he grinned and said "Good job!" Then he asked me if I was going for some kind of record...which got me thinking. Quite honestly, this is the longest my armpit hair has ever been since the stuff started growing when I hit puberty. So, I was saying this to a girl I work with, wondering aloud why it's considered such a gross thing for women to have body hair, and she said "It's just not natural!". I very quickly pointed out that it is natural - or the stuff wouldn't be growing in the first place. She didn't have an answer for me. :p

So anyway, the point of this thread was to ask a few questions, get some other points of view on the whole body hair thing...

1. Do you like your own body hair?
2. If no, do you shave/wax/whatever it off, or do you put up with it? Why don't you like it?
3. If yes, why do you like it? Do you like it in some places and not others?
3. Do you like body hair on your significant other?
4. If yes - without getting too graphic - what do you like and why do you like it?
5. If no, why not?
6. If your significant other was hairier than you liked, would you find them less attractive?
7.What about the other side of the coin - if you like 'em hairy, would you be turned off by them ripping all their body hair out?

I will be back to post my own answers after some others have had a go. :D

1. Do you like your own body hair?

I'm indifferent to it. I could take it or leave it.

Although I do like my nose hairs on those rare occasions when they protrude early in the morning: I've found that if I walk in the direction the majority of them are pointing, I always find something interesting. It's a mystery to me, but I believe an important gift, too.

3. Do you like body hair on your significant other?

Unfortunately, I have no official SO at this time, although I've been lobbying for the legalization of marriage to people of latex.

However, I do have a best friend who shaves no part of her body and I enjoy the color of her armpit hair, which is a beautiful wheat.

I suspect what I'm most likely to cue in on is how comfortable the other person is with it. If they like their body hair and are comfortable with it, I'll tend to like it too.

The exception are politicians. I believe there ought to be a law that all politicians should have to shave their armpits and then have tattooed in their armpits the words, "I'm the pits". It seems only fair.

If GOD intended woman to have body hair than he wouldn't have included the intelligence of manufacture's in man-made warehouses with the creation of the ingredients that when chemically combine unnaturally would formulate into the concoction that is designated as Nair (TM).

Well I guess for a guy, being hairy is a sign of manliness. Maybe all those blokes who lack the hairy gene feel threatened when a girl out does them in the hairiness factor?

I remember I dated a girl who was often teased for being especially hairy. It didn't really bother me and I didn't even notice till people pointed it out to me, however when she did some especially foul things to me, I did make a point of utilising that handy little fact to have a go at her.

I guess I prefer neat body hair. So for example, if a guy had massive straggly beard, it wouldn't do much for me but if it was neatly trimmed then it would look nice. I think the same goes for the rest of body hair especially when you are urm getting up close and personal, it is better to have something nice to look at :).

I guess shaved just looks neater than when it is unkempt and so I prefer that. I'm quite lucky in not having masses of the stuff.

1. Do you like your own body hair? No. Tell you the truth, it's a pain; whe sweating, underarm hair (to me) just encourages smells, by retaining sweat, which then becomes stale......................

Strangely enough, my eyebrows meet in the middle. When I was younger, and my hair was darker, I had a 'thing' about that, and always shaved off the gap. I think that I read at some stage that joined eyebrows denote a more 'Animal personality' (where or when I can't remember)
2. If no, do you shave/wax/whatever it off, or do you put up with it? Why don't you like it? Put up with it
3. Do you like body hair on your significant other? Ah, you mean "she who must be obeyed" I honestly am not bothered, but she is. She is permanently trying to get rid of as much of it as she can.
6. If your significant other was hairier than you liked, would you find them less attractive? That's a funny question, because it will lead to a funny answer. I have what I would judge to be slightly less body hair than "the average man" (who ever he may be), and, when I was at College, though it was not through any violition on my part, it seemed as if I was attracted to women who were slightly hairier than the average. I can remember someone saying (jokingly, but seriously) "Michel always goes for the hairy type; must be to make up for his own deficiencies". True ? I don't know.............
7.What about the other side of the coin - if you like 'em hairy, would you be turned off by them ripping all their body hair out?
Don't really care either way

I will be back to post my own answers after some others have had a go.
I expect that to be quite interesting...............:D

:biglaugh: That's funny because I would get similar reactions when people would find out that the ONLY hair I have is on my head.

So anyway, the point of this thread was to ask a few questions, get some other points of view on the whole body hair thing...

1. Do you like your own body hair?

Nope

2. If no, do you shave/wax/whatever it off, or do you put up with it? Why don't you like it?

I haven't shaved in a while, but I would if I could. I don't like it because it pricks though my tights.

3. Do you like body hair on your significant other?

Only a little bit.

4. If yes - without getting too graphic - what do you like and why do you like it?

Well, that little bit, I don't think I'm allowed to talk about.;)

5. If no, why not?

I suppose I just like the 'femininity' of it all. Which I guess is also why I cross-dress and wish to shave, myself.

6. If your significant other was hairier than you liked, would you find them less attractive?

Physically - yes But that would be most shallow of me to let that determine my love for them. So that wouldn't change how I feel about them. I don't think so anyway. I've never really been in a relationship, so I guess I can't REALLY answer that.

1. Do you like your own body hair? I like the hair on top of my head and my eyebrows... the rest can go.
2. If no, do you shave/wax/whatever it off, or do you put up with it? Why don't you like it? Shaving is like showering every morning. I must shave every morning or I feel a bit off for the rest of the day.
3. If yes, why do you like it? Do you like it in some places and not others? See answer one.
3. Do you like body hair on your significant other? Not excessive amounts.
4. If yes - without getting too graphic - what do you like and why do you like it? ...
5. If no, why not? Excessive body hair reminds me of the guy who raped me.
6. If your significant other was hairier than you liked, would you find them less attractive? No... I might try to persuade him to lose some of it.
7.What about the other side of the coin - if you like 'em hairy, would you be turned off by them ripping all their body hair out? ...

Lovely Lady Bastet, you just keep coming up with interesting threads!

1. Do you like your own body hair?

Usually. While I tend to shave my armpits when there are razors available, when it grows out and I look at it objectively (fighting my culturally-induced 'oh, no! Whatever will people think if they see it?!' panic) it tends to look like down, or very fine fur. Maybe it's just because of my connection with the beasts and birds that makes me think that this is a good thing.
2. If no, do you shave/wax/whatever it off, or do you put up with it? Why don't you like it?

Even though my main answer was 'yes', I do tend to shave it off whenever I can. When I don't like the hair, it's because I'm putting too much emphasis on appearances, or worried that I'll ruin an event with it. (One side of my family tends to gossip about such things.)
3. If yes, why do you like it? Do you like it in some places and not others?

For the warmth! (But I tend to not like it on my legs, simply because the hairs tend to spring up wildly and cause little bumps which are not comfy.)
3. Do you like body hair on your significant other?

Not sure... I imagine I'd find them attractive either way!
4. If yes - without getting too graphic - what do you like and why do you like it?

Probably for the feel of it. There's something very grounding about hair against your face (like it's a male, and you've got your head on their chest).
6. If your significant other was hairier than you liked, would you find them less attractive?

Hmm... Dunno. I don't think so.

7.What about the other side of the coin - if you like 'em hairy, would you be turned off by them ripping all their body hair out?

Only because of the screaming and crying that would likely ensue! :p

Hmm our biology teacher taught us that human body hair contributes little to no actual warmth since it is not dense enough and that the feeling of warmth is actually psychological.

Probably for the feel of it. There's something very grounding about hair against your face (like it's a male, and you've got your head on their chest).
:D Nice clarification :D.

1. Do you like your own body hair?
As a general rule, I don't even think about it until it bothers (like in the summer when I sweat) me because I'm a strawberry blond so my body hair is a very fine reddish blonde. My husband doesn't care one way or the other.

2. If no, do you shave/wax/whatever it off, or do you put up with it? Why don't you like it?
I shave. Can't stand the smell of the chemical junk and I hesitate to put that stuff on my skin.

3. Do you like body hair on your significant other?
Doesn't really matter one way or the other to me although I love that he now shaves his head and trims his beard into a vandyke. He's not super hairy tho.

6. If your significant other was hairier than you liked, would you find them less attractive?
Probably not. I didn't marry him for his body and as far as I can tell his brain isn't fuzzy.

Because you are you, you can do anything that you want. If you want long pit hair that is your gig. If that is something that you do, then don't change b/c of other's expectations. POWER TO THE PIT HAIR!!!! (but i do shave mine...) but that is not the point i say YAY PIT HAIR! YAY BODY HAIR!!! if i was you i would braid it. heh heh

Well, thanks for the sentiment, but this thread wasn't really about whether I should lose the pit hair or not. ;) I'm just interested in peoples' reactions to body hair in general. I did have someone suggest I turn it into dreadlocks, but I think it'd be a bit bulky (not to mention smelly). :p

I'll come back and answer my own questions later, I'm at work right now and don't have much time left on my break!

Could be worse. :p I like the hair on my head, but I wouldn't mind the rest of it just not growing quite so long.
2. If no, do you shave/wax/whatever it off, or do you put up with it? Why don't you like it?
I shave my underarm hair because I've done it for so long it feels icky if I don't shave it at least every 3 days. Pubic hair I never shave, leg hair I'll shave maybe once every couple of weeks, and only in the summer.
3. Do you like body hair on your significant other?
Doesn't bother me.
7.What about the other side of the coin - if you like 'em hairy, would you be turned off by them ripping all their body hair out?
I wouldn't particularly mind if she shaved every once in a while, but I'd be kind of worried if she felt the need to do it every day.

1. Do you like your own body hair? - I like the hair on my head and that's about it. I don't mind it on my arms though, anywhere else gets shaved or removed.

2. If no, do you shave/wax/whatever it off, or do you put up with it? Why don't you like it? - Shave it and hair removal cream works well for places I don't want to shave. I just feel cleaner without the hair, especially under my arms and on my legs.

3. Do you like body hair on your significant other? - Depends on where it is. I
n general, I like some hair on a woman's head, but she looks pretty damn sexy without it so I guess it depends on the person.

5. If no, why not?
- I like smooth legs and skin, I can't lie.

6. If your significant other was hairier than you liked, would you find them less attractive? - No, but I might give her some new-fangled razor as a present and suggest we have some fun with it. :D

I have very, very little body hair. It's all on my head. :D
2. If no, do you shave/wax/whatever it off, or do you put up with it? Why don't you like it?
I have to shave my legs once every week or ten days. I found this new product called Veet. It's a little bit like Nair, except that it actually works.

As far as body hair on my significant other goes, I'm neutral on it. Body hair or lack of it on a man isn't a big issue for me. Well, I'll take that back. I hate hairy fingers!

Well, I promised I'd answer my own questions, so here I go...

Bastet said:
1. Do you like your own body hair?

No, I don't. I'd be quite happy to have it all fall out, never to return (well, except the hair on my head, and my eyebrows and eyelashes). Whoever gave me the genes that grew my bikini line ought to be shot. :cover:

2. If no, do you shave/wax/whatever it off, or do you put up with it? Why don't you like it?
In summer I'll shave/wax/use hair removal cream all the time (what I use depends on the body part in question, how much time I have, and whether I can be bothered with pain). I'll make sure I clean up if I'm going to be wearing something that reveals any hairy bits (e.g. a skirt or sleeveless shirt) at other times of the year. But generally, if nobody is going to see it but me, I'll quite often just put up with it (like I said earlier, I can be a bit lazy if it's only me I'm gonna gross out). If I'm getting laid on a regular basis, then I'm very on top of keeping the hair at bay. Sometimes I'll get rid of it all for no other reason than I want to feel sexy - cause having smooth skin makes me feel sexy. I'm actually planning on going and letting a professional rip it all out when I take my holidays next month. It's become sort of a challenge to wait that long since I started this thread, though. :p

3. Do you like body hair on your significant other?
That depends on if she likes it. I must admit though, there's nothing sexier than smooth skin rubbing against smooth skin... :flirt:

6. If your significant other was hairier than you liked, would you find them less attractive?
No, I wouldn't. As someone else mentioned, if a woman is comfortable with it, then I can't be uncomfortable with it on her behalf. I do like the idea of those razor games, though... :faint:
