Yeah I do...especially the independent/underground films. What about you? What's your favorite?

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam is my favorite.

I've tried watching them, but damn, they are just so hyperactive and colorful. It just becomes too much. :thud:

I totally agree!

Most of my favourite Hindi films come from the pre-Bollywood era, that have great stories and amazing soundtracks...here is just a few I like:

Mother India - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Haathi Mere Saathi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boot_Polish_(film)

In fact, those are the only Hindi films I have seen in total. lol

I love the more modern stuff, I find some of the older stuff is just really badly dated.

The most recent ones I saw was: Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Khamosh Pani (Not Bollywood, but worth a mention)

My favourites have got to be though 'Benares: A Mystic Love Story,' 'Fire' by Deepa Mehta, with honorable mention going to the epic Ramayana TV show... so good. Bride and Prejudice was pretty good, so was Lagaan. I've got on my list the newest version of Jai Santoshi Maa to watch.

I also love Asian films from western nations like the UK and Canada. There some really great comedies from the UK starring Anglo-Indian actors, a few come to mind: Bend it Like Beckham, Bollywood/Hollywood, East Meets West, and Anita & Me.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I love Iruvar and especially Ash dancing in that raincoat. The music was great, addictive, and colorful.

Also another I was very fond of, and my first Bollywood film to watch was Veeru Dada. Love the music, dancing and unique characters. Really enjoyed it. ;)

I actually occasionally have movie parties just for Bollywood films :D

I've never seen the older stuff (Before 1985 or so) and some of the really new movies are boring because they try to phase out the music and dancing. (why do you think people watch Bollyood in the first place?:D) But there's about a decade of what I like to call "Golden Years" of Bollywood where the music was always good, the dancing too, and the characters were lovable - even the villains sometimes!

The first one I ever saw was "Munna Bhai, MBBS". My favorites lately are "Veer-Zara", "Om Shanti Om", and "Jodhaa-Akhbar"

Probably not what the OP meant, but ...

I've only seen two Indian films, the 50s classic 'Mother India' and the more contemporary (and surprisingly gritty for Indian cinema) 'Bandit Queen'.
Both fine films.

That was my reason for watching Bollywood films. I find the colorful music and dancing to be it's main attraction and draw. I can't imagine Bollywood without that.

I'm Just curious, do any of you like Bollywood movies?

Honestly, i haven't seen enough to make any proper judgement.

In fact, i've barely seen any. But this thread can serve as a good list of recommendations for me to check out.

I don't like being ignorant. :D

Oh please. You remind me of Egyptian teenagers.

What's so special about that guy?!

Nothing really. He's actually quite
a mediocre actor. However, he's a
household name* in the overseas
market, especially in the Muslim
world. But, there are tons and
tons of Bollywood actors that are
much better. Aamir Khan, for example.
_____________
* Bollywood has gone from 80s and
90s creative route, to full-blown
money-centric; profit maximization,
pretty much.

Yeah, he's immensely successful here, mostly for romantic movies. I've only seen one movie for him, My Name Is Khan.

I was mostly teasing Mystic for her shameless crush, but i don't doubt that Bollywood must have more powerful actors than him. I haven't seen anything for Aamir Khan, but i'll check out his movies.

Interesting. That's a thing i'll keep in mind sorting through which movies to check out first.

Aamir Khan is the best of the Khans*. He's very versatile
and quite adaptive. But, you can spot Shahrukh from a
mile away**. However, he was wonderful in Devdas (which is
what I would recommend).

Badran, there is a wonderful underground scene in Indian
cinema. I believe you would really enjoy those movies. But,
I'd recommend a mainstream favorite of mine: 3 Idiots (which
has Aamir in it). I would also recommend checking out the
movie called Agneepath (starring Hrithik Roshan).

ps - My favorite Arabic singer is Tamer Hosny.
I know Erga3ly by heart. :p
_____________
* Saif; Shahrukh; Salman; Aamir

** not dynamic enough

There's usually a lot of quality in underground industries, so i wouldn't be surprised.

All three of the movies you suggested seem to have gotten good ratings, especially 3 idiots, so i'll definitely check them out, starting with 3 idiots specifically (i like it's premise).

Oh god, so that bum really has at least some international reputation of some sort. I thought it was all hype.

You just ruined a very good day for me! :D
