Bricks Actually Serious Prepper Thread

I like to joke about prepers, because I am not one. I have a niggling sensation in the back of my mind that I won't be prepared if **** Hits the Fan (SHTF). Needless to say they are endlessly entertaining on youtube and have interesting survival strategies which I will wish I had used should WWIII happen.

Its a little depressing though, because if they are right its going to be a very sad time. Sure, some of them will survive; and they'll have the pride and confidence which comes from being prepared when disaster strikes. On the other hand everything will turn into long, hard days of labor, uncertainty. Also some of us who aren't prepers will survive, anyway; and that will be unfair. It really will, because we are the grasshoppers dancing while the ants are storing things away.

Anyways I took a look around from a preper talking about what they are doing to prepare in case of war. This fellow is buying up lots of gasoline for his electric generator and storing it in expensive plastic totes.

What are some good preper videos of your choosing?

And listen all you 'Librals': a little light hearted humor is fine, but please provide interesting preper videos and not just beetles songs or twisted sister.

I love it.

***edit*** Did you change it? I thought it said "Fan hits the shin" which seems very good to me. Maybe that sounds dirty in your country?

I had a time when I did that. I had 6 months of food in cans, 55 gallons of kerosine and some cash in a Swiss bank account. The food way outlasted it's lifespan some of which was sludge when I opened the cans. The kerosine ate through a storage shed (long story) and the Swiss bank decided my funds were too limited and sent back my money.. I also bought a small generator for Y2k which is still in the original box in my garage.

Now, I'll just live this song?

No, didn't change it. The letters are the same, just a transposition of the first and last words and a transposition of the last letter of those words.

Edit : and no, it doesn't sound dirty

Gasoline requires stabilizing additives to last a couple years.
So it's best to rotate one's stored gas to keep it fresh.
Propane & firewood have no such issues.
I don't know about diesel.
Cash is good to keep around...but don't ever admit having
it to cops or anyone in government, lest they steal it under
color of authority.

I think a go bag is more important than hording. So many natural and man-made disasters these days, and as the climate continues to change natural disasters are only going to increase. Back where my youngest son was born, in Louisville, Colorado, flames started up and swept through the town burning down over a thousand houses in a matter of hours. Many people only had time to grab a couple things and run for it. A go bag should be filled with necessary supplies, canned food, bottled water, copies of important papers, passport, ids, medical stuff, medicine, flashlight, etc. Where one person lives danger of a different disaster than in another place, so the go bag can vary from place to place.

If you really wanted to be an efficient prepper, I would propose creating a little community in your area dedicated to disaster relief. It's going to provide you with emergency shelters, reserves of food and medicine and maintain bonds within your community which will be invaluable. Even otherwise completely untrained and without any resources people can provide a lot in a disaster situation by simply being a usable workforce. People hoarding stuff aren't exactly playing it all too smart and it has a limited use. Humans greatest strength has always been in their ability to form communities.

I haven't thought it through but rather than a stash of cash it might be wise to keep around a stash of non-perishables such as vodka and TI-36x calculators.

I was more of a hood or greaser (wrong side of the tracks kid) back in the day. Preppers were lame spoiled kids. :D

I have met your kind! One time when I was a kid there was a gang of girls in my neighborhood that went around on bicycles all wearing pink jackets. They'd beat boys up. I didn't know. I encountered them but got away. I heard another boy didn't.

So was that you?
