Burial, cremation, other?

What do you want done with your remains?

When you die what do you want done with your remains? Burial? Cremation? Diced and fed to wild dogs? Have you thought about it? And why that particular choice?

I've always leaned towards being cremated and having my ashes scattered. Though I must admit, the LifeGem thing is intriguing and worth some consideration.

I checked "Other." In the past, I've said I'd like to be cremated, but really I don't give a rat's ***. I'm going to be dead. Whomever is left and has to deal with my corpse can do whatever they want with it. They can have it stuffed and use it for a coat rack for all I care; I'll be dead, so it doesn't matter to me.

Is that when they press your carbon and make it into a CZ?

It's using the carbon from cremated remains to make a diamond.

Shouldn't it be called a Dethgem? (it looks better without the "a" because of Dethklok)

I should have gotten my dad turned into a diamond. Then I could sell him... O_O That's sort of ****** up. Now there's going to be dead people in diamonds and they will be sold and then you'll never know if your ring is acutually a dead guy. It's so ****** up that I like it though. :D

It is probably wrong of me, but I don't like the idea of being buried 6 feet underground, I also don't like the idea of burning up my body (I know that I would eventually turn to ashes anyway, but...)The only alternative appears to be a vault.

I hate the vaults in the cemetery. They are so much more creepy, because you know the dead body is right there... and there's holes in them(the vaults)... O_O I know there's a bunch of dead people under the ground too, but somehow the above ground ones are just so much more creepy to me.

I wonder if there is an acceptable way to use a human body as fertilizer? I mean, it's not like we're using our bodies after we die and there's no reason to take up space with a decomposing body, so why not be useful and contribute to life?

I suppose *shudder* that you could probably, instead of straight burning them, crush the bodies in to bits, drain them and then mix them with fertilizer to make a high-protein fertilizer

Shudder? Too graphic or disturbing an idea for you? :p Maybe I'm just weird like that that I think of that kind of thing. I think of all kinds of weird things. Like, if your body is considered clean of disease, then what about using it for food for starving people?

to be honest, it is a little disturbing for me to wrap my head around. >.< Sorry!

I thought I read a study that said eating other humans can cause mental diseases? I know that eating brains causes madness. If you really want to, I suppose you could do that, but it'd be hard to find people willing enough to eat you. I mean, how would you label it?

Done here.
I said "cremated - scattered," but if John prefers to bury the ashes, have them made into a gem or whatever, that's fine, too. I just don't want to be buried. I would like a stone placed in our family cemetery, though.

I like the idea of cremation and ash scattering but I think my family should be able to decide the service and determine whether there is an open casket viewing prior to the cremation. Heck, if they decide they'd prefer burial, so that they could "visit" me and this helps the healing process, so be it.

So as to avoid confusion, I'll likely place in writing at some point that my husband should make the final decision and when I'm older, I imagine that Craig and I will take care of our own arrangements.

If Craig requests that I'm buried next to him, that's fine too.

Well, I will probably donate my body to medical sciences first, but when they are finished with me, I would just like to be disposed of (probably cremation) without any sort of ceremony given that I would have been dead a little while by that point, and extending it out again would be a little mean.

I'm happy with whatever helps my loved ones say goodbye.
Having said that, I've always had a soft spot for scattering ashes. There's something about it that I find sort of ... beautiful I guess.

I am a registered organ donor, so that if I were to die catastrophically, any part of my body can be used (that is not beyond repair) for the benefit of others.

Once that's done, I have requested in my last will and testament that I be cremated and my ashes kept until my next of kin decides what to do with my remains.

Steve wants to be buried, and we have decided to plan for a burial at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis for military veterans (and given that he is also a war veteran, he should receive burial honors as well as his next of kin receiving a Presidential Memorial Certificate, if memory serves me correctly).
