Burial or Cremation?

Alot of people scatter their ashes on the beaches here.

Or, they have some kindly fisherman take them out to sea and release the ashes upon the waters.

Cremation--I like to think I would be useful even after I am gone--and I suppose some of it is spiritual in that I don't think the body that is left after I am gone is the essence of me.

I heard of a neat one....they are cremated then the ashes are poured in cement and a artificial reef is make out of it and placed in the sea for the fishes to swin around....

Crematoriums remind me of courtrooms and vice versa. Still I would prefer an open air cremation, or a good ol Tibetan sky burial.

That sounds about what I'd consider the ideal for me.

I'm opting for cremation, but I'd personally like to be able to allow my body to remain in the spot where my consciousness leaves it for a few days before moving it. All the while having the Bardos Thodol read by my ear to help my transition. THEN burn me into ashes.

Peace,

Cremation, I just find it irrelevant and unecessary for anybody to be looking over my dead body during a funeral service, it's kind of creepy.:p I believe that my soul will live on, my body will turn to ashes indefinitley so may as well have it done sooner.

Burial is kind of like choosing the shell over the oyster.

You wish to respect the person, but what made that person you knew has gone away and left a shell behind them.

I personally do not care what happens to my body, but the romantic side of me would like to see a funeral pyre on the beach at sunset.

No ceremony. Just those close to me sitting around and enjoying the time together.

I'm thinking cremation right now, but I might change my mind when I get older and have a family and stuff. At that time, I'll probably just tell them that I'll be dead as a doorknail anyway and won't give a rat's petunia about what happens to my bod, so to just do whatever makes them happy.

But at the moment, I might like to have my ashes scattered thoughout my favorite places in the mountains, and the place I grew up. And on the highest peak of Williamson County of course, and probably in the Harpeth River, too. Goodness, I am attached to so many places! *Begins humming* This-world-is-not-my-home-I'm-just-a-passin'-through....

I'm one for the whole "Toss my body in the woods and let me rot" thing. Might as well give a little something back to the earth, eh?

What is your choice?

Is it influenced by your spiritual beliefs?

Burial Please.

Actually, I want an Irish-style wake, then bury me in the cheapest pine box you can find.

Burial. I want a traditional LDS funeral and burial. Cremation isn't usually involved in that.
