Burning books and effigies - What the hell is wrong with these people (all of 'em)?

A lot of Middle Easterners view the US (Mainly due to the USA's facist foreign agenda) in a negative way this will only make it worse a lot of American Protestants seem to love to incite hatred towards other people.

I loathe Christian Fundamentalists just as much as the next guy, but I wouldn't suggest that their rights and freedom should be trampled. I staunchly oppose them when they try to trample the rights and freedom of others themselves, but this Koran burning thing doesn't count. The whole thing is indeed imbecilic, but people can simply choose to ignore it.

That branch of American Christianity fails to have a decent intellectual dialogue so they start burning Sacred Books.

Yes, they're petty and infantile. Best to limit their limelight as much as possible by downplaying and ignoring their hijinks. The irony is that these same folk would be the first to cry if someone burned christian bibles or american flags. It's all just paper and cloth, and if they're burning their own property I don't see a legitimate concern. To suggest that we should sacrifice people's rights and freedom just to spare someone elses fragile feelings is absurd.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
This goober pastor and his lot apparently have forgotten a basic principle of warfare: Don't jack with people who are prepared to be more ruthless than you are. These idiots are going to stand out in a field and burn Korans - at what expense? They need to remember that they are angering people who are willing to hijack commuter planes and fly them into buildings, blow themselves up in crowded marketplaces, behead journalists slowly and excruciatingly, and hang burned bodies from bridges. I doubt it if these church people quite have that amount of fervor.

This kind of thing puts peoples lives at risk from the lunatics that will thrive on this kind of thing.

I'm only gonna say this once. If Americans do not flock en masse to this protest in order to physically assault these retards for their stupidity, I don't want to hear any *****in' about the next terrorist attack, from anyone. Freedom of speech can be a great thing but when you extend that right to everyone you may have to curb-stomp a few people who don't have the brains God gave a gopher. Do the right thing and show your fellow countrymen that you aren't going to allow this type of intolerant ****.

Well...that's about a 15 hour drive from here, so I'm going to miss that one. But I am speaking out against it at every opportunity.

Fair enough. Let's say, anyone within walking or reasonable driving distance. As long as people put the boots to these morons, I'll be happy.

What these people didn't know is that, much like a bible, you can usually get a quran from the local Imam. Free.
These "morons,' as you like to call them, paid for the books they are burning(I guess that does make them morons.).

the best insult the Muslim communities worldwide can throw at this guy is to IGNORE and NOT CARE. starving him of the attention he desires...ahhhh, that would be SWEET!
This definitely is the best response in the thread. I think it would also help if leaders, like Petraeus, quit acknowledging him too. It just feeds the flames, as it were.

He's not saying it for the benefit of the idiot pastor.

Petraeus, Clinton, Obama, and other representatives are trying to communicate to the Muslim world that we as Americans have nothing to do with the idiot pastor.

To be honest I get kind of excited when people burn a flag or an effigy, but only when it's their own flags and leaders. Books are a whole other statement - contempt for knowledge.
