So I’m a nerd through and through
As such I tend to buy merch that I not only regret but merch from folks I probably hate at the end of the day
Clearly I value my ethics
Disney, Star Wars and DC and Marvel crap
Even as I freely acknowledge that CEOs of such companies probably don’t care or even hate my existence.
Still I buy them because I find them fun and cool
My friends even gift such items to me.

So what are some of your ”guilty purchases?”
It can be anything. Books, DVDs, merch, board games, electronics, flags really anything goes.

But I’d ask, why did you feel even slightly guilty when purchasing? Not enough in the bank maybe? Didn’t like the artist?
Whatever goes
Because honestly I need a bit of comrade right now lol

My last pair of basketball boots (before the pair I wear now).
Custom Kyrie's, designed by me (you can select an almost infinitesimal number of combinations on some shoes, and these were amongst them). Mine were unique. Really happy with the look, great grip, etc.

But the cut of the back, where the heel counter is, impinged on my achilles. And as someone who suffers from achilles tendenitis...yeah...that didn't work at all.
So I bought the cheapest decent boots I could find (Pumas) and the Kyries are sitting in the wardrobe, almost unused.

I've bought over 100 yards of linen fabric over the past couple of years. I've made 5 shirts for my son, two aprons, a long sundress, two long tunic/dresses and slacks to go with them, two sleeveless tunics, winter pajamas, a reversible jacket, and a pair of dress trousers so far, but I keep wanting to buy more fabric--faster than I can sew it!

Never used but wrapped in tissue and put in a draw... Why? I have no idea but after the event initial euphoria of finding a beautiful work of art i always almost regret my impulse...

But, i certainly regretted it at the time but grew to love my overly extravagant and bloody expensive purchase of a 486, 33meg PC with 32 meg of ram and 20mb hard disk.

I was a lowly student already in debt, i dug myself a much deeper hole by buying what was then the top of the range computer for what was a whole years income.

Ok so it got me through college and university and helped me start our business but the cost... I still remember those sleepless nights lying awake worried if i could afford food.

I've bought some disappointing wine on a couple of occasions. And during lockdown I bought some trousers on mail order, even though I know from bitter experience that for trousers that is asking for trouble - and sure enough, they don't fit properly. As for guilty purchases, well, I have been known to buy cream cakes for tea once in a while, which I don't need and I know are not good for either my heart or my waistline.

The last time I experienced that was in 2017, when I bought a game on Steam but ended up not playing it for more than a few hours. It's still regularly played and updated, though, so I can jump back in. Not too much regret there.

I grew up in a very tight spot financially, so I've learned to be content with only buying few things and only when I'm very interested in them. That has helped me avoid regrets when it comes to my purchases.

For most of our marriage, my husband didn't drive. I would take him to work, often twice a day(he works split shifts sometimes), pick him up, and shuffle him on his breaks. Overall, I didn't mind. But what really ticked me off was he'd call and say he was ready to go, and I'd get there, and he wouldn't actually be off for another hour. And I'd be stuck in that car, in the heat of summer, in the frigid temps of winter, in that car with two abnormally hyper children who didn't get along. And it made me mad...

So I started charging a quarter a minute to sit in the parking lot. While it initially helped some, it was still far from perfect. When pay day rolled around, I'd collect anywhere from 8 or 9 dollars, up past 30 dollars on a bad week. They'd recently begun making Barbies differently; paying more attention to realistic body size, skin color, and hair color. He'd bought me a 'curvy' blue haired one for my birthday, and I just loved it. So I used my 'car money' to buy more. First another 'curvy one', but with purple hair. Then a really tall one, with red hair.

By the time he finally started driving, I had over 100 Barbies of all shapes, sizes, and colors. I don't regret it, but sometimes its hard to find a place to put them all!

There are some categories of things which when buying, I tend to regret the most. They are:

Laptops (They tend to outdate quickly)
Low quality TVs (I feel this is an area where it's better to spend the extra $50-100.)

I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

I've spent around $350 on teas in the last 12 months. I don't have that much money to spare, and adding up the number like that makes me really feel the pain. $20 here.... $30 there... it sadly adds up.

For reference, my teas/tea supplies took up two 3x2x2ft boxes (after they were stacked on top of each other) when I was packing. I have a shelf just for tea.

The tea is so good though... I can't decide if I regret my purchases or not

Most of my regrets have been in the automobile area - as to the earliest being too much of a commitment (1936 vintage) and where I just didn't have the money or space to treat it respectfully, or some old piece of junk (Vauxhall Victor?) that eventually was cut up completely and dumped rather than spend any money on it. Several more in this line. Although I have had some successes too - a cheap Morris Minor that saw three of us cross France and Spain, and a Golf that was very reliable and saw some travels in Europe too. But then I did actually care for the MM and was able to find all necessary to make sure it behaved - the nearest car scrapyard.

I'm actually having a really hard time coming up with something.....
I'm surprising myself here. Apparently I'm a very responsible shopper!

There are a couple of things that got broken a bit earlier then I would have liked or expected, but can't really say I regretted the purchase since I still got my money's worth out of it before it broke down.
