no you and I are examples of what a progressive tax system is all about, we all contribute but according to our ability and our needs (yeah that does sound rather Marxist, but it is the basis of the the US tax structure)
We set up the structure to support the good of the country and the populace. If we want to encourage child rearing, we reduce taxes for those who are doing that, if we want to encourage home ownership, we allow them deductions for their mortgages. And at the most basic scale, we adjust taxes according to income such that those who can afford it more pay more toward our mutual benefit do so.

It's not news to me, I'm just tired of it. I am tired of writing check after check to the IRS. It seems like I have been doing that for years and years and will be doing it for years and years to come (except for 2016 through about 2021 or 2022). Oh well, someone's gotta pay for government, I guess. I am not opposed to child tax credits by the way, but I am opposed to non citizens of this country getting refunds. And hey, if your refund is more than you paid in, you're not getting a "refund." Just call it what it is.

Oh and what an eye opener it was for me when I was selling real estate! At the time, the price PER SQUARE FOOT was absolutely no different than it was in the 1060s but wow, the houses were a lot different. For one thing, they were a lot bigger. They were often on bigger lots. Children couldn't even share a room, let alone a freaking bed. Everyone had to have their own spaces. Not space. Spaces. There often needed to be a "man cave" or a shed just for the woman. It was crazy. I remember shopping for houses one time with this first time home buying couple and they brought their parents along and I remember the dad saying several times, "Wow, these are starter homes? They don't look anything like any home we ever bought together. Not even our current home."

No, I am not a potential first time home buyer, but as home ownership is a foundation of our economy and I am not ignorant of the difficulties of getting a first mortgage for acquaintances, I see the utility of this proposal to improve the economy.

@Kathryn just complained about the tax structure, but it is set up to encourage growth in the economy, This is another step. now you could argue that it might not be a great idea in the long run, but your characterization speaks more to your ignorance than anything else.

Just to clarify, Harris is not saying she will give these things to those who vote for her. She is saying she will give these things to everyone regardless of who they voted for or if they voted at all.

Back in the old days in Chicago the party bosses used to send busses down to the various skid rows around town to gather up the drunks and junkies. They’d drive them to a polling station and give ‘em $10 each to vote as they’re told. Which they were happy to do.
