Freedom depends on good for it's existance not evil.TrueQ said:Good can exist without evil. I would prefer it didn't, of course, since that would mean that all my freewill and choice as a human would be stripped away. There are some things out there that are more important that 'good', and one of them is freedom.
Lol, who can tell I'm caught up in the spirit of Independence Day?
Freedom is not the same as freedom of choice.TrueQ said:How's that? True freedom of choice encompasses the ability to choose whatever action you want. SInce parts of it are interpreted as both sides, then it is dependent on the existence of both good and evil. If good disappeared, freedom of choice would, if evil disappeared, then likewise. Its possible to supress freedom of choice in order to spread evil, I agree. But its also possible to supress freedom of choice for good using laws, missionaries, in fact most of society. All of those things limit the amount of freedom people can express, while at the same time introducing a lot of good into the world.
I think it is more a case of we would'nt appreciate good if evil did not exist - or beauty if ugliness didn't exist............EnhancedSpirit said:Yes, good could exist without evil, but we would not understand it, because there would be nothing to compare it to.
How do you think a world without evil and solely good can be achieved? Without evil, our very meaning of what "good" is will become skewed. Just as a world full of males or females cannot exist without the other opposite sex to compliment it, neither can evil nor good without the other side to oppose one anothers prescence.Crystallas said:Yes it can exist without evil, as evil can exist without good. But we would never know it.
Good and evil are the way we interpret adaptive and maladaptive trends - from our own perspective.Ronule said:I don't believe in good or evil. I feel that they are just human perceptions of the world.
So, good and evil are illusions, but this tree is real? Where exactly is this dastardly tree?EnhancedSpirit said:Good and evil exists as illusions in our head, caused by eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge.
