Of course it has; everytime I need to write about a person, I have to mention he/she his/hers; I am horizontally challenged (either that or my weight is right but I am a foot short in height), I am Hyperopiatic (long sighted), and I am now the official Household engineer in chief (I sweep the floors and unblock toilets); I am equal in every way to the lady to whom I am married, except that she is strength-challenged, while I am best suited for other tasks - but don't tell anyone otherwise we will have the P.C squad surrounding this house in under ten minutes!

Political correctness can definately go too far. When we get into saying stuff like 'horizontally challenged' instead of 'chubby,' it's gone too far. I don't advocate stuff like 'tub of lard' or 'fatso' either, but still. :areyoucra

i'm an advocate for political incorrectness!:bounce

look i think it's great that we want to be sensitive to other people...but don't take it over the edge that's just irritating...

Political correctness gone mad is the expression we hear all the time.

There are now warning signs in public places being put up in london warning people againt men with cameras photographing children.
It means you can be stopped almost anywhere like Trafalgar Square or othert tourist spot by the police and questioned Just for taking pictures. such places have children everywhere.

I think all this political correctness stems from having too many lawyers running around filing lawsuits. I don't know if its the same in your country, but in the USA we are in bondage to lawyers, have the greatest number of lawyers per capita in the world! Most companies are afraid to make a move without lawyer approval for fear someone else's lawyer will sue them. This will eventually lead to economic gridlock, and then China and India will pass us by. The lawyers who we call Senators and Congressmen have already gridlocked our political system...

Political correctness has gone too far now that a black woman is better and more important than a white male, who is a devil. When you get in trouble for using "he" to refer to an unidentified person instead of "she" because using "he" is "insensitive." When people are getting into colleges just so they can meet a quota, not becuase they are more qualified than a white male. Political correctness has gone too far becuase, in its efforts to make things equal it has made things unequal in the other direction. Becuase now you can't say what someone really is (retarded, por ejomplo) but you have to use a whole lot more words just so you don't "offend" someone (a person with a mental disability). (my brother made a good comment. To be politically correct, you can't refer to someone as "adjective," like coloured, or disabled. You have to say "person with noun" Person of colour. Person with a disability.) I am a huge hater of the rediculous extents to which political correctness has gone. It is rediculous and self defeating

I honestly have never heard someone say "person of color" or "person with a disability." Maybe it's just where I live.

You're lucky, then. I hear it all the time, and I am constantly getting yelled at by all the liberals I hang out with to use more "sensitive" speech :)

You only get "person with a disability?" I tend to hear cries for "differently abled."

I noticed it big time at work when we had a new hire join our team. She's black of Caribbean ancestry. When someone in my group had yet to meet her, and asked my boss what she looked like so he could figure out which of the new hires she was, my boss seemed really hesitant to say "black." If I could be pointed out as the fair-skinned redhead (and I have been before), what's so bad about saying that she's black? It's not like it's offensive to describe someone as Asian or African or Italian or Irish...at least not to me...

Does this make me a person of different sexual preferences instead of a lesbian? :D

Hmm. I think "preference" could be offensive to those who don't "prefer." Use something like "orientation" instead :biglaugh:

Hmmm, preferences? Orientation? I could really "step in it" by giving my opinion on this one...

Instead I will refer to something I heard the other day, can't remember where...but here is a parable...

Think about a huge corral full of cattle, there are "herefords", and "angus", and "brahmas", and "jerseys". They all look a little different, are different colors and patterns, some are short, some are immense. Now all these different cattle can eat from the same trough with no problem, why they don't even mind rubbing up against each other to keep the flies off! But best of all, that rancher who owns these cattle that cover a thousand hills, loves every one of them just the same as the others... Kind of like cow heaven don't you think?

Considering where cows usually go after they reach full size or get too old to have more calves, I'm not sure I'd call that heaven. ;) I like the concept, though.

In cow heaven they won't have to worry about being eaten, there will be no need...

One thing I hated... I found an online PC dictionary.

Pagan: Replace with non-believer.

I haven't placed too much faith in it since then. I guess I'm a non-believer of most of PCness.

What site did you find that from?

As for political correctness, my tongue is too lazy to use a full sentence when I can easily get my point across with one word. I tell people they are short, not vertically challenged, they are fat, not horizontally challenged, I also tell people they are stupid, not that they have a slight learning and comprehension problem. Im too lazy to type in s/he or she/he or any of that other stuff. I strictly use either "he" or "she". Usually "he", since she requires an extra button to be pressed.

I tend to ignore people who cant respect me for saying what I want to say. It kinda works itself out. I say things that are considered racist all day long to people who in many places would take offence to it, and they say things back to me. Guess what, while those who take offence to it are wasting their lives worried about things that dont effect them, and sistorting what the real meaning of favoritism and racism mean, they are just living the dullest of frustrating lives feeling sorry for themselves. While people like me, and like people on this forum even that can deal with diversity without crying are having a jolly time.

PC whatever you want, as long as I have somewhere to be COMMONLY CORRECT.

The one thing I hate about America is everyone tries to make it so no-one is offended. PC is one of the biggest things I hate about that.
