Canada Law questions.

A few of my friends are wanting to go to Canada for vacation, and they heard that you can gamble and drink at the age of 18. Could some of the Canadian residents clarify if that is true or just some odd rumor. Also, one of my friends is wondering what the speed limit is. He heard there is none.

They could come to the UK they can here.

Then they could also go to Germany no problems no speed limit.

Depends where you're going; by the sounds you'll be in quebec. The rest of Canada requires you to be 19 before you can have any fun. As for speed limits, rest assured they're posted (in kph).

As of now, were planning on Toronto, and I haven't looked into what area thats in. Were all 19 or 20 so that would be a problem.
But that Kph for speed limits is a good point. None of us thought about that. Good thing most American cars have that under the Mph.

19? you can get liquered and go to strip clubs. I hate to say this, but if you're black don't give the Toronto police grief. They have a horrible reputation for pulling over black drivers dispurportionately without cause. Toronto cops are knobs. May i suggest Montreal?

I did suggest Montreal, but everyone said it was too far to drive. Non of us are black, but the thought of opressive cops makes me not want to go thier.
Some more questions my friends have. Is marijuana legal in the whole country, or just certain areas? One of my friends heard it is only legal in Vancouver. The last question for now, is it true that prostitution legal?
Im trying to get my friends to join so I don't have to play middle man, but I don't think they are.

******** cops are everywhere. The toronto ones are just i mite more focused about it. Nice city, otherwise. If you don't count the recent gang-murder spree.

Is marijuana legal in the whole country, or just certain areas?
It's illegal everywhere, including B.C. The law is just rarley enforced. Cops who bust you for pot don't get alot of brownie points up here, just paperwork. I wouldn't worry about it. But if you're walking down the street smoking a joint, the police usually appreciate a gesture of discretion.

is it true that prostitution legal?
No. But again, it's a big city; the police don't knock themselves out over it. If you're gonna hire a prostitute, best look in the phone book. The girls on the street tend to be really strung out, and you might not be doing anybody any favours giving them the work; i can't attest to this personally (in regards to toronto) but i think it's still sound advise.

If I had a choice I'd go to Montreal over Toronto any day. There is a wonderful atmosphere in Montreal that Toronto lacks, in my opinion. If you are close to the Toronto area you might want to consider some other city instead of Toronto. Or you might want to go to Niagara Falls instead. I think they have some casinos there.

Sorry to disappoint you about the marijuana and the prostitutes in Canada. : )

I just wonder were everyone got the idea that pot and prostitution is legal? ALOT of people, at least in the area where I live, believe they are. One of the things people talk about is how a chain of coffee shops have complimentary bowls of weed with joints already rolled out for you. The pot story also goes on to say that all the extra money allowed for the creation of a national health plan that has really low doctor/hospital fees, and many are government funded free-clinics.
Guess I'll set the record straight for everyone.

The age of majority for gambling and drinking is 19 in Ontario. And the idea of no speed limits is quite frightening, don't you think!? Of course there are speed limits here as well, and as "Mr Guy" said, they are posted!

Have fun, and be careful, the roads are slippery this time of year! :p

Thanks for your concern, but we won't be going until June or July.
As for no speed limits, there are a few roads with no posted speed limit signs, all of them except for one are gravel roads, so they naturally have thier own speed limit.

Try Peterborough, man. Great, small city and you can go see Washboard Hank play every thursday!

(i'm going there to see Willie Nelson in april. He's coming to ottawa, but it's worth the extra 2 hour drive to see him in a nicer town.)
