Cancelling a Course (Are they legally allowed?)

My school might be cancelling a course that I am in, because there are too few students. Is this legal? There are only, at most, five students, and several might be dropping out. The course is Physics 20. Before you say "Just take something else.", let me explain what this course means to me. First and foremost, it is my first chance to take something harder than normal. It's a grade 11 course, and I am in grade 10, but I was allowed to take the course. This is important to me, because for as long as I can remember, school was a dreaded place, because it was absolute drudging boredom. I wasn't challenged at all. Secondly, I'm also taking Chemistry 20 (Which I'm finding very fun! :jiggy: ). If I finish both of these courses this year, next year I can take Bio 20, Bio 30, Chem 30, and Physics 30. Which would give me three departmentals, and more than enough credits to pass. All I have to do then is take whatever courses I want (as well as Pure Math 20+30 and English 20+30). If I can't take this physics, it screws everything up. If this is legal, is there any way I can appeal to them to stop this?

This happened to me in high school too, and nearly happened to more than one class. They ended up amalgamating the Yr 11 & 12 classes for that subject (Literature), so that we could all take that class, otherwise they'd have had to cancel it too. Pretty sure it's legal, and I don't have any suggestions on what you could do about it, sorry. It happens. Not much help, am I?

Be sure you let the administration know how you would feel if the course were cancelled, Druidus. It might make a difference.

Thanks anyway Bastet. ;) The problem is, the Physics 30 has a relatively low head count as well (even counting that weird kid, Two Head Tom).

I think there ended up being about 10 of us doing Lit, and that was with 2 year levels. :p

*edit* Actually, I just did a headcount...there were 3 Yr 11's and 5 Yr 12's, counting myself...so, 8. It was my best class lol.

I flunked high school chemistry. On the final, I didn't even bother to answer any of the questions, but instead wrote a humorous poem about chemistry. The instructor read it aloud to the class. Everyone got a good laugh. I got an F on the test and the course.

I can't say. I'm not a lawyer, but I do hope that you get another good class, even if you feel like it's a step down.
