Change the world

turk179

I smell something....
I have taken a question that was posed recently on another thread and manipulated it into something new and of my own creation. It has now become -

If you could do two things that would change the world for the better what would it be?

Its alive! Bwaa Ha Ha!

1. I would finally figure out how to make people understand that their thoughts, emotions and beliefs literally form the world they experience, both individually and en masse.

2. I would enter everyones dreams, awaken them within the dreamscape, and take them on a field trip they could never forget.

well... you asked. :)

1. I'd genetically engineer a virus that would change the human fertile period from a monthly menses to an annual or biannual oestrus, and increase the relative size of female hominids to ~5% greater than males.
This would tend to curb the runaway overpopulation that is decimating our planet's ecology and keeping most of the third world population in a state of abject poverty.
The increased size would tend to curb the male subjugation of females that has been a prominent feature of human society for millennia. It might also increase the general IQ of the species, inasmuch as the limiting factor for infant head/brain size is the female pelvic size.

2. I'd engineer a second virus that would alter the hominid brain with the effect of decreasing the individual craving for significance. This innate psychic hunger is the fuel for religiosity and all the strife religion engenders between different cultural groups. It would also tend to decrease the harmful competition for economic or power status within discrete cultural groups.

I like your first point Seyorni; as to the second, I would be wary of that. Why ? I feel it would take the explorer's instinct out of mankind.

Our inate curiosity is what has led to most discoveries. I would have thought that significance is an integral part of curiosity....and there you go again with that word I don't personallu like "Religiosity".....even though it's in the dictionary.

That's a point, how about giving the entire world one spoken language (as was tried with Esperanto, but failed) ? when you come to think of it, a lot of today's conflicts are as a result ogf lack of communication, and misunderstandings between races.

1. I would make all drugs legal, and have no age restrictions. Legalizing them would take the thrill of doing something illegal away, and having no age restrictions would eliminate "I turned 21, 19, 18 or whatever age, today, I'm gonna go get trashed." I feel if someone was allowed to have small amounts of alcohol at a young age, it would eliminate the urge to party when you turn whatever legal age.
2. Force all Wal-Marts to close. And to be fair, I would have a seperate store for each of Wal-Marts departments put up, and the former Wal-Mart employees would have first dibs on the new jobs. This way, there would be no more "Wal-Mart goes in, several local stores go out," and the economy could grow.

1) I would have women genetically engineered to look like fashion models and never get fat.
2) I would have myself genetically altered to have a healing factor and adamantium skeleton with retractable claws.

"Before they head back, Zaphod looks for and finds the gun that Humma Kavula wants so badly. This is no ordinary gun as he soon discovers, for when Trillian points it at Zaphod and fires, he begins to see things from her point of view."

#1. I would develop and mass produce this gun... I have no doubt a lot of forum members would be firing at each other if they could...

#2. I'm still thinking...

1) I would have men genetically engineered to never leave the toilet seats down or complain about women and have some learn to take care of themselves instead of having women take care of them. :p

2) Let there be peace on earth really come true.

I would genetically engineer people to see other people for who they are, not for how pretty or handsome they are or how hot of a body they have. This would also include seeing all people for their character, not their skin color.

I would alter peoples perception of what a hero is. Too many people worship athletes and celebrities. Police, Firefighters, Paramedics, Teachers, and people who just plain sacrifice to help others are the real heros.

I would alter government so that personal monetary gain could not happen. Elected officials would serve because they have the interest of their constituents at heart, not their pockets.

1. Make everyone understanding, compassionate, and accepting of other's differences.

2. Abolish poverty and pain.

Well, it's not much to ask for, is it ?:D

We're already pretty close to achieving that goal. Now we just need to engineer some women who look where they're putting their bare bottoms. ;)

I think in answer to this I would/could only change one, and I think in my consideration of the fact I will ponder the wisdom of the 42nd Hexagram of the Book of Changes.

As this may mean naught to most people I will recount a shorty story...

A child remains at school awaiting his mother. The teacher, needing to mark some work, gives the child a jigsaw of a map of the world, tasking the child to entertain himself by attempting to complete the puzzle. The teacher begins to mark the work. After a little while the teacher realises she needs an item from the opposite side of the classroom. As she passes the child she is suprised to see that the child has completed the puzzle. Astonished she enquires 'How did you manage to do that so quickly?'. The child answers 'Oh it was easy, on the reverse side of the puzzle is a picture of a man, so I put the man together, and the world came together at the same time.'
