Charles Darwin Did Not Create Evolution

Monk Of Reason

༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
Charles Darwin is not the author or authority on evolution today. It is constantly brought up by creationists about how Darwin was wrong about "X" or wrong about "Y". This is irrelevant. He sparked the theory of evolution but the overwhelming vast majority of evidence and thought put into evolution has come after his books. He was even wrong.

So for all intents and purposes Charles Darwin has little to do with the current theory of evolution and his discoveries also mean little in debate of legitimacy of the science today. It is great to talk about and his contributions are greatly needed but in the debates held against creationists it is not a wound against the theory if Charles Darwin is wrong about something.

Many people still don't seem to understand this.

But he did! He made a fish do homosexual sex with a monkey, then there was a big bang and then there were human beings!

So true. Darwin could not stop the discovery of Evolution if he wanted to (and there is in fact considerable evidence that he wanted to postpone it, at least).

Lawrence pretty much found out on his own, prompting Darwin to finally reveal the conclusions he was sitting on for years.

Still, many people seem to be ill informed enough to assume that Darwin was some sort of evil genius that released a bad genie into the unsuspecting world, or something.

I suppose it comes with the package of hoping that Evolution is somehow now true. But then again, many Creationists end up conflating the origin of the universe with Evolution as well, so the misinformation is rampant anyway.

Oh, I think a lot of them do, just like the issue of first life. Although they know these issues are bogus, they bring it up because they have little else with which to counter evolution. Then, of course, there are those who, never bothering to look into evolution, simply parrot the crap they're fed by the creationist poobahs.

Yup.

Today, we don't have Darwinian evolution theory. It's gone through one or two major changes, and I have a strong feeling there are a few more of these shifts in the future (and No! it's not in the direction of some magical external being that created everything). Epigenetics is only it the beginning of things. I have a feeling that the viral infection path of mutations might take on a bigger role of "genetic change". And so on, and in the process, it's not going to be easier to understand, but rather more complex, which unfortunately leaves more free interpretations (or misinterpretations) by the creationist crowd
