Democrat in 2020?
Screw that.
I call it putting all the pieces on the table and looking at it. It makes for some interesting pictures.Well, on law of averages, and looking only at tax, that's a fine position.
But specifics matter. Consider Nebraska vs Nevada.
Overall, might be best to vote for whomever is going to provide the best government at a given point in time.
Barracking for a 'team' seems simplistic at best.
I wonder how much of those overall taxes are compulsory and which ones are voluntary. I'm willing to bet the list would change quite a bit.Given how often the right complains about how tax California, the fact that TX and CA are on the same scale causes me to chuckle. I'm not waiting for anyone on the right in this forum to admit error.
But overall tax rate is not the only important measure. With money as the input, it would be nice to know which states are most efficient at delivering services both from spending money wisely and the benefits derived.
I favor high fuel taxes to discourage driving & associated pollution.I don't mind the increase in the fuel tax here, provided this actually goes to maintaining our roads, this makes me feel even better about owning a Tesla.
Voluntary taxes? Taxes are not voluntary. If you own property, buy things or work, the resulting taxes are by law.I wonder how much of those overall taxes are compulsory and which ones are voluntary. I'm willing to bet the list would change quite a bit.
Of course they're voluntary. You don't have to buy some products that are taxed, you can buy less gas, use less services etc.Voluntary taxes? Taxes are not voluntary. If you own property, buy things or work, the resulting taxes are by law.
You know I wouldn't mind half as much as they actually did use it for the roads and the like. Half the BS they spew out never actually gets realized for the intended purpose. If anything, that money gets put into a slush fund for some unrelated pork barrel project.I don't mind the increase in the fuel tax here, provided this actually goes to maintaining our roads, this makes me feel even better about owning a Tesla.
...& don't have to earn money.Of course they're voluntary. You don't have to buy some products that are taxed, you can buy less gas, use less services etc.
That's what I say when I go to the reservation."No thanx, I'll skip paying the tax."
By that standard, you can avoid property taxes by not owning property and income taxes by minimizing your income. That's not really 'voluntary' in the dictionary sense of choosing to pay or not to pay.Of course they're voluntary. You don't have to buy some products that are taxed, you can buy less gas, use less services etc.
