Biggest festival of Central North India. Like the Chinese new year, people travel in millions to be at their homes during these three days. Now that people from this area have spread all over North India, the festival is celebrated in all North Indian states.
Women offer water oblation to setting and rising sun while standing in water (rivers and water bodies), prepare eat food on the bank. Should be a festival of sun worship , but it is dedicated to 'Chhathi Mata'. And the crowds are huge (Huge in India means not less than a hundred thousand).
