if the NATO or similar wants to use this event as pretext to draw Europe into a world war...our kind and gentle response is: "Yes, sure. In a parallel universe. In the metaverse."
Maybe that allies should have let Germany keep Italy in 1944. Or better yet, let Russia/East Germany have Italy after 1945.

That's a good point. But the war changes people and changes the nations.
Italy and Germany have been the most pacifistic countries for the last 75 years, probably because the war was so traumatic that we are over (darwinistically) the notion of war.

What a coincidence...Italy and Germany are the most peaceful countries on Earth since 1945.
Thanks Allies.

And with the most anti-war constitutions on Earth.
Two times a charm (in the 20th century). After centuries of other wars.

Maybe because the war was so traumatic that we have evolved (darwinistically) from that stage?
Kinda funny how societies are electing authoritarian leaders and they are the biggest threat to global security today.

It's a profoundly anthropological matter. Since Americans have been the winners, they probably associate the war with something positive. Same as for the Russians.
To us it's the opposite. To us war is the most horrific word ever.
And April 25 and May 8 we celebrate the Liberation Day. And it's not a "victory day". It's a reminder of the monstrosity of war.

Of course, this is a political fiction designed to minimize drama.
Obviously, Taiwan is an independent country with its own
government, & has existed so for quite some time.

de facto it is a nation. de jure it is not.

Please keep in mind the U.S. depends on China for their rare Earth elements we need for batteries and solar panels.

We should kowtow to other nations for trade purposes? Then lets just tell China that we surrender and will become a province of theirs.

An example of negotiation: now that Russia annexed the territories, let there be peace among those countries.
The EU will help Ukraine rebuild the cities, whereas Russia will rebuild the annexed territories.
Let Russia annex Italy, let there be peace among those countries. After all might makes right. Right!

Russia isn't as we can see. They see war as an instrument of taking over nations and may even use nukes. We need to denazify Russia.

Robots aren't going to take Taiwan. And destroying Taiwan to 'conquer' it is just a huge waste of ... everything, with no real payoff in the end. Posturing is easy. Sabre-rattling is easy. War is very difficult, expensive, and usually gains very little in the end. And modern warfare is even trickier because of all the alliances and not knowing who will back whom when the bullets fly. Not to mention the fear of some idiot finally unleashing weaponry that destroys vast swaths of the planet.

Also, leaders need to beware, their people aren't so keen to go fight their stupid wars for them as they once were. Humans aren't quite that naive, anymore. Smart phones are everywhere, and people are talking to each other. It's a lesson Putin is learning the hard way.

agree with all, and I do not disagree with this bit, but that is only in a nation that does not strictly control the media. And although this is an issue in Russia, even though they have some control on the media, China is much more in control of all things media, including smart phones. And their news is telling an entirely different story than ours or Taiwans and their smart phones are closely regulated, and watched.

Because Europe is so peaceful and would never start any world wars?

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
You mean that someone will force them to go to war against their will?
No. But eventually all nations rise and fall over the centuries. War is basically a force of nature that inevitably will come at some point in the future. Now, or thousands of years from now imv.

My Darwinistic faith tells me otherwise.

In a very literal sense.

The first minute of this video explains why life as we know It ("we" being everyone in the modern world, including the US and China) is dependent on keeping Taiwan's production capabilities intact:

"Now, while some may think this has to do with politics and history, the far broader impetus is economic. Tawain is a critical cog in the global economy given it's role in the production of semi-conductors, and he who controls the means of production effectivly controls the world's supply of, well, everything . . ."

We can perhaps at least agree with a free and fair trade partnership with China in order to minimize the costs and optimize the benefits of our transition from carbon energy to sustainable green renewable energy,
