The Makombo massacre was an incident that took place from 14 to 17 December 2009 in the Haut-Uele Province of Democratic Republic of the Congo in the village and region of Makombo.[1] The non-governmental organizationHuman Rights Watch (HRW) believes the attacks, which killed 321 people, were perpetrated by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), who deny being responsible. HRW have said that it was one of the worst massacres carried out by the LRA, whose fighters roam across several countries after spreading from Uganda, where they waged a civil war in the 1980s.[2][3] HRW first learned of the massacre in February 2010 and publicised it in late March 2010.[1]"
