Christians: Kill family who mentions other beliefs to you?

Nigeria is a Third World country. The people are primitves.

Primitives?

I have to take issue with that generalist and somewhat bigoted statement.

PS Nigeria could be much more than a 3rd world/developing nation if it wasnt for the UTTERLY disgusting US and UK oil companies that parasitize and exploit the worlds 8th largest oil reserves (in Nigeria)
The people walk around in rags in dire poverty while old whitey and his oil concern grows fat on the spoils.
Perhaps if the nation had some money invested into the country, instead of being diverted into whitey's bank accounts, bringing Nigeria into the 21st century then perhaps the people there would not cling to dark superstition and their old ways.

Meh, for once I chose to dispense with political correctness. Bill Maher would be proud.

For the record, the civilizing effects of Western culture are grotesquely overreated. I should have said that from the get-go to avoid sounding like something I'm not.

Western culture has its pros and cons...one of its pros however is universal education....something which stopped us burning witches centuries ago.

Perhaps.

But sometimes you find out that you are what you think that you're not.

You said that Nigerians were primitives. Someone pointed out that your opinion was overgeneralized and bigoted, to which you supported your original statement with "in certain African countries."

That is a generalization that you projected onto Nigeria.

it was written for a people who had made a covenant with God. In that covenant, they accepted the mandate that they would worship only the True God Jehovah. They also accepted the judicial system which included the death penalty for certain crimes.

this was written only for the Jews under that covenant with God...it did not apply to anyone else but it certainly shows us how God views the worship of false gods.
So... IOW, we're no longer obligated to kill worshippers of false gods, but we know that God likes it when we do?

I find blaming Nigerians as "backward primitives" is not only bigoted but ignorant and naive. :tsk:

Africa is not another planet, nothing that happens there is apart from the influence of the rest of the world. Just like anywhere else.

Then no one has ever known god, since knowledge is exclusively the realm of logic.

You are correct that no one has ever known God with mind. But it is also said that God/Truth is known by proper application of mind on scriptures and following the practices with full devotion and faith.

Mind is not equivalent of knowledge. Leave apart God, very few have seen their own mind. On proper meditation, one finds that mind is just a bundle of thoughts linked to some storage mechanism which again is linked to some PERSON.

The way a book will not know its author, Mind cannot know its creator -- who is the PERSON -- that is the true YOU. It is said that Mind recoils from IT. Word recoils from IT. That, IMO, means that both Mind and Word have their stable in the PERSON.

In a dead body all organs persist: the Brain, Liver, Genes etc., but a dead person cannot say "I wish to live". It is a bit naive to persist with the thought that Self is the Body and mind is the brain. These vital organs are reflections of something that we (egos) do not know.

I reiterate my understanding that scripture is the unbroken, infinite, full word, which becomes the time and the universe. Scripture is a blue print of creation (and in reverse mode the way to salvation).

The name Primordial Annhilator brings a smile to my lips. It is ironical that the Vedic Deity Rudra (Primordial Annhilator) who is actually nameless is spoken of as Cruel and also as most beneficial auspicious Supreme controller called Shiva. Scripture, IMO, merely reflects this. Scripture is like tranquil water. We reflect the muck on our face in that tranquil water.

In the East is is thought that God can be directly perceived in this life. This perception of "God" or TRUTH is beyond words and thought. Once it is experienced it changes your life and you transcend suffering. This is the goal of many religions in the East.

If Christ is God, then why was it commanded in the OT? Even if Jesus absolved people from having to follow OT rules...

...why was it EVER there in the first place? Who was commanding to kill family, was it God or the author? If it was the author, how did he sneak his personal opinion into God's word?

I thought I would also add that God is timeless, thus his word goes on forever. So the whole idea that the New Testament contradicts his very being by stopping his word that goes on forever just isn't very well thought out.

If for some reason someone excepts this contradiction then God is still timeless and his character never changes, which means if God thought killing was okay in the Old Testament he thinks it is okay now and forever or it is at least a very possible act for him.

this is true.

Im stepping into "it" but they do have primitive lifestyles. One must first understand that its a rich country with a middle class rating. They have beautiful citys and many are well educated.

Nigeria is the United States' largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa and supplies a fifth of its oil (11% of oil imports). It has the seventh-largest trade surplus with the U.S. of any country worldwide

Nigeria has launched three satellites into space.

before making negitive comments one could study and know what there speaking about.

Nigeria - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

heres were there problems lie and the primitive remarks are valid

Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa
population of 140,003,542.
highest growth and fertility rates in the world
68% of the population is literate

just over half the population has access to potable water and appropriate sanitation;

Over 70 per cent of Nigerians are now classified as poor, and 35 per cent of them live in absolute poverty.

this means the majority live very primitive

most country's have people that live primitive but using a blanket statement is not advised lol
